You might remember a case in the Atlanta area that I mentioned a
couple of months ago.  There was a petition online requesting that the
two young men who were accused of killing a dog in a horrific manner
be given a maximum sentence if found guilty.  One juror on the case
caused a mistrial because she felt the prosecution didn't prove the
boys had been involved.  Just before the case went back to court at
the first of February, the two boys copped a plea.  The case involved
breaking and entering a community center, destruction of the community
center and of course cruelty to animals resulting in death.  They were
given 10 years for the B&E and 5 years for the cruelty charge.  The
sentence is to be served concurrently so they'll only be jailed 10
years, but at least they will always carry a record for being animal
abusers.  This got me thinking about sex abuse web sites that list
where sexual abusers live.  I thought there should be a similar site
for animal abusers.  I called on my good friend Google and low and
behold, there is such a site at http://www.pet-abuse.com/  You can
search by area and click on a "balloon" which gives you details of the
crime, information about the person committing the crime, disposition
of the case and in a lot of cases photographs of the abuser.  I'm
happy to say that I don't have any balloons near my house at this
time :)

I will pass on reading the balloons, but I'm glad the site is there.

People who rescue and then adopt-out animals especially should consult
this type of resource before letting someone adopt an animal.

The sex abuser sites are a horrific kind of vigilantism that often
ends up inflicting mob violence on the entirely innocent.  Why should
an animal abuser site be any better?
