Christina Websell - 02 Mar 2007 18:11 GMT Well, sort of! I cannot tell you how long it is since I used my music system. Years, maybe. For some reason I stopped listening to music, probably linked to when I had depression but I never started up again.
Last Saturday, I got up and felt good. So good that I was motivated to do so many things in house and garden that I'd been neglecting and I wanted to put some music on too! I thought it might be nice to play some vinyl, so I put on a double EJ album that I've never got round to playing before. To say Boyfie was surprised would be an understatement. He was in the kitchen, next room to where the music system is, with door open between. He was sitting there hoping for "just a little bit more breakfast" and sort of pointing to his empty bowl. Meowmie had already said no. Well, he almost catapulted from his spot when the music came on. "Wha', wha'? wots this "noise?" When he returned to earth his ears were swivelling every which way. When "My Song" came on, his eyes got wide and when Elton sang "how wonderful life is, when you're in the world.." his eyes got wider and wider. Then he had to go outside to collect himself :-P Aww. And no, it wasn't too loud. It's not as if he's never heard me play a CD on my computer, either.

EJ is my long-time fave, and I bet I have the same albums that you have. I've listened to "Madman Across the Water" for what? 30 years? Am not tired of it yet.

I like EJ a lot, he is very talented. I find some of his songs very moving.

(Thomasina is my cat who lives permanently with my gran) when she was a kitten. We were driving back to Cardiff from London and Thomas was fast asleep in her carrier. Abba's song "Dancing Queen" came on the radio, and Thomas woke up and started howling & meowing. I switched the radio off, and she settled back down to sleep. I switched the radio back on, Abba was still on, Thomas woke up and started yelling. So I switched the radio off, and you guessed it, she went back to sleep. I left the radio off and continued to Cardiff. When I got to my grans, I told her what had happened and we decided to see whether it was infact Abba causing Thomas to yell, or something else. So we put an Abba CD on the stereo. Sure enough, Thomas started yelling, then she left the room in disgust. Fair to say, I don't think my cat likes Abbas music! ;)

Yes, but noise was coming from a place where no noise had come before. And it probably sounded different, in terms of resonance and maybe other things, from how it sounds coming from your computer - even if it wasn't any louder. Cats can hear all sorts of sounds we humans miss. Or who knows, maybe he just doesn't like Elton John.
Poor Boyfie! Maybe he'll get used to it. I love the image of his ears swiveling all over the place.

So good that I was motivated

My vinyl player (turntable) doesn't work quite right but I've managed to get some of my old stuff on CD's including EJ. Persia pays no attention to it. Funny story! But yeah, I don't care much about music these days. I like the old stuff and some of the new stuff. And I like blues and jazz. But forget about rap and things like that. Not interested in that. They probably don't care that we don't like it. :-) But I love most other music. I couldn't live without music. Some type of music plays in this house about 24/7.

Theresa (who really likes some hip hop-- and Cajun music and tango-- which absolutely requires accordions ;))

Touche'! I've heard about every accordion joke under the sun but not that one! (I love accordion music, I even tried desperately to learn the instrument but never really got very good at it). Here's my other favorite, it's a Garfield cartoon: Jon: The accordion is my life, Garfield. You know why? Because I have SOUL. Garfield: No, Jon. You have an accordion. What a weird coincidence you brought this subject up. Just this week I've had one of those tiresome my-excesse-stuff-is-oppressing-me episodes and decided to have a digital garage sale, and listed the accordion on e-bay. Biskit will be sad to see it go. She loves that thing, even when I played it. It always made me wonder if she was deaf. When I was taking the photos of it, she was all over it purring & rubbing. I kept having to push her away, and even so, her ears are visible in one of the pics. I guess Biskit has soul. ha.

You have an accordion. LOL! When John was here we were joking about the Lawrence Welk show and boom! It showed up on TV! Accordians and all! And all those youngsters in 1950's dresses. LOL I have some dresses like that... back when I had money I collected vintage stuff like that.

"Play an accordion, go to jail. That's the law." :)
> Theresa (who really likes some hip hop-- and Cajun music and tango-- > which absolutely requires accordions ;)) I definitely like some hip-hop. It's not all sexist and violen - there are some great songs. And I disagree that there's no talent involved, as many people seem to believe. Just because the performers don't *sing*, that doesn't mean they're not doing anything creative. The ones who are really good at it are performing poetry. Of course, there are some bad hip-hop artists, and lots and lots of mediocre ones who are just copying each other. But that's true for every form of art on the planet.
I never could get into zydeco, though, don't know why. It is very happy-sounding music with a lot of spirit, but it just doesn't grab me for some reason. I don't like most Cajun food, either - probably because I don't like shellfish. Which reminds me - why was Mardi Gras so early this year?

Could be worse- Sarrasine loves Motorhead! And the Sex Pistols! One of the little songs I've made up for her (Own up we all do it) is "Sarsi is a punk rocker" to the tune of the Ramones "Sheena is a punk rocker". One of her (Politer) nicknames is "Punk Kitten"

He loves *all* music-- even my singing, the silly boy. It;s very gratifying, though, when he jumps into my lap when I sing. He's not critical at all. ;) Or maybe he's just trying to get me to stop, and I'm nisinterpreting it. ;)
