Caliban does this each morning. he sits staring at my back while I'm on
the computer, and keeps saying, 'meep... meep... meep... meep...' until
I turn around and then he sits stock still and just stares at me. The
minute I turn away from him again, he starts going, 'meep... meep...
meep...' again. I think it has something to do with wanting his
breakfast. ;)

If it looks like a cat, walks like a cat, and sounds like a duck, it
must be a ... duck? Are you sure you weren't "ducking"? :-)

Oh, she was a character.  A little yellow tabby named Annabel.  She
also once removed one of my pierced earrings with her teeth. :0

We *have* one. We call Smokey "The Duck Cat" because she's made this
quack sound instead of a meow her whole life (we've had her since she
was born, as she was one of Spooky's stowaways. Spooky was The Amazing
Spayed Cat Who Gave Birth).

It's not annoying to me though. Weird. And Very Very Identifiable. But
not annoying.

These days she quacks for her breakfast from the moment I start moving
until one of us feeds her; she gets fed separately from the rest of
the clowder for health reasons.

Frank used to quack sometimes. He could meow properly, but I guess his
quack meant something special. Actually, it was more of a muack.

This girl, Annabel, used to go "WAK!"  She did it in the morning when
she wanted breakfast, but the horrible thing was if I got up in the
middle of the night to go to the bathroom, she'd start.  She would
follow me to the bathroom and weave around my ankles going "WAK! WAK!
WAK!"  Then follow me back to bed, going "WAK! WAK! WAK!"  Ay yi yi.

LOL! Sounds like one of those duck toys that you pull along and it quacks.

Annabel Lee used to meow while scratching an itch, resulting in "Me ow
ow ow ow".  It sounded like she was trying to bark.

I wonder if that sounds anything like a cat saying "wak", or a ferret
saying "what, what, what". :)

She said WAK! WAK! WAK!  Clearly separated, very distinct-- not much
like a ferret going "whatwhatwhat." ;)

"me ep" equals "me eat".  meow talk takes understanding.   TuTu

Trust me, both Jake and Molly are very good at "signing" since I walk around
the house totally deaf most of the time.

They as well as Kayla are extremely gifted in letting me know what is going
on and what they need.  Kayla goes to the door when the cats are outside and
want in.  She has various ways of telling me who is home, etc.

Trouble is, if it isn't someone she wants to see, she doesn't let me know.
Not much of a guard dog.

Note:  Borders are supposedly so smart.  Why hasn't she learned yet that she
cannot catch a ball in her mouth if she already has a ball in her mouth?

Three tennis balls on the floor = total meltdown.

'cause it's so hard to choose.
Kayla is a smart dog.  Why give up something you have for something that
may not be as good?  Best wishes to all.   MLB

Betty used to say, "mehnew?"  I wonder if she was asking me what the
available meal choices were.

It doesn't get any cuter than that.  Skritches to both.

Glad to be of service. :) Two only thing better than one cat is two,
definitely. Double the cuteness!

It also worked out well with respect to Frank. He could relax when
Caliban came and stole Miranda's attention completely, so Frank didn't
have to worry about a boisterous kitten attacking him again.

I agree with you, and in fact I think it more than doubles the
cuteness, because you have 3 objects of cuteness to look at: one
cat, the other cat, and the combination of the two, which is its
own object of adorableness. In other words, the whole is greater
than the sum of the parts. Or something. Not trying to be overly
nerdy here, I just think that watching cats together is a wonderful
spectator sport.

The initial Two ^ was supposed to be a 'The'.

You're right, absolutely. Two is more than one plus one, in Cat Math. :)

Cat *presence* increases exponentially.  I noticed this when I first
got Stinky.  One cat is one cat.  When you add just one more cat,
suddenly there are "cats everywhere."  And even if they don't get
along together, they will gang up on you. ;)
