Passing (?) stranger

This afternoon I came home early and took care of some chores that
required slogging through the back yard mud.  As I came back from
burning the trash, I saw the handsomest strange cat (I'm pretty sure
he's an intact tom) coming out from under the workshop.  He walked
across the compound and approached Avery - Avery was not amused but
wasn't actually violent.  Then he noticed Fleagor and realized if he
wanted to get anywhere with this clowder, he needed to placate Fleagor
(Alpha male).  They met - Fleagor had his tail up, then Fleagor
started showing - not aggression and not fear - perhaps best called
wariness.  As Fleagor started back toward the house, the stranger
followed - Fleagor would stop; the stranger would stop; repeat several
times.  All the while, half the clowder is watching through the back
windows or from the cat flap platform ... just watching.

Eventually the stranger got right up to the back door area and I was
able to take a few pictures through an opened kitchen window.  When I
checked later, he was fifty feet away, then over a hundred.  I have no
idea what happened to him.

What a beauty!  I wonder if he is lost?  Does your newspaper list lost and
found ads for animals?  MLB

What newspaper? The nearest serious one is not even in the nearest
town, and I'm miles outside the nearest town.  There's a regional web
site that has many cat classifieds, but the only 'lost' item is for a
female gray tabby a long way from here.

Wow, he looks an awful lot like Jake, with a lot more jowl.

Of course Jake is just a puddy tat, wouldn't hurt a fly.

Absolutely gorgeous!  And looks like a purebred chocolate point Siamese
unless I miss my guess.  He may have just been wandering around, although
why someone would let a cat like that run loose (I know, I won't get started
on that subject) is beyond me.

He looks more like a seal point to me. But then, it's mid-winter so
his points are naturally going to be darker. Could be an older cat
too; they get darker with age.

There really is very little difference between a seal and a chocolate,
unless you have one of each standing next to each other.  I suspect they are
both only slight variations of the same color.

I always thought a seal point was much darker than a chocolate point.
I'm not well-versed on the subject by far, though. Frank gets so dark
his mask is nearly black in the winter. I don't think I"ve ever seen a
chocolate point though, only pictures.

I'm leaning toward the purebred idea myself.  While random breeding
does sometimes produce beautiful cats, it seldom comes that close to
breed standard.  I know the cats that live around here, and he isn't
one of them.  Since he isn't afraid of me, just wary, I suspect he's
somebody's pet who escaped to look for females.  If so, he's out of
luck around here: all the females in my clowder and the one across the
road are spayed.

Oh, what a handsome boy. He looks to be in pretty good shape from what
I can tell from the pics. Not starved by any means. How close is your
closest neighbor? Think he's just a ramblin' cat that belongs to
someone? Either that, or someone *knows you* and dumped him out
knowing you'd take him in. Even so, he's either a "recent dump" or
he's a good hunter and has fed himself well.
Geez. I wish the cats people dumped on me looked that good.

For some reason, the dumped cats take up with the somewhat smaller
clowder across the road.  Otherwise, the nearest neighbors are at
least a quarter mile away.

What a beautiful cat, he could be a purebread siamese maybe if he's intact
he could be a stud male that was lost or even dumped. So sad to see him out
on his own. :-(
