Vernon is sat on the other side of the office desks to me. We are chatting
about our overnight visitor. Vernon says, "Why us? How come stray animals end
up down here at our house?"
I told him he is *stoopid* if he doesn't realise by now that we have a large
neon sign on the roof of our house, placed there by the Mothership, which says
"Suckers for animals live here" with a large flashing arrow pointing down to
our front door.....

Translation: Animals can sense, and find, people with good hearts.

Although that doesn't explain how Joe Kitty ended up at my neighbors door -
the neighbor who hates cats so much she claimed allergy and gave away her
daughters kitten.
Except that's he's Joe... and he was prolly lost.....

Maybe the sign was blown by the wind so it pointed next door. ;-)

A house is not a home, without a cat.

Obviously true;-) Maybe true in fact, too, since there's no telling
just what sort of messages our animals are leaving when they mark
their territory. Maybe something like "we're all well-fed, healthy and
happy in this house. Now, if you were a lost animal, that's the sort
of marking you'd be happy to run across when looking for shelter.
I saw this post so didn't reply to the one saying that the ol'lady pup
was back with her masters. And that statement shows the difference
between d*gs and cats. When a cat is found I would have said he/she
had been reunited with her/his slaves.

Both my mother and her father have that sign on their homes, no matter
where they are. :-)

My roommate's mother had the sign, too; the most extreme case was when
a cat had her kitten on the back step, and then died, leaving them to
raise the kitten. My own mother had a sign over her house that said,
"Hates animals -- stay away!" despite my father's love for them (which
I inherited from him, thank goodness).

I must have a similar sign, either that or like the hobo's of old the
animals mark the light poles with code to be used to determine if the
person is a soft touch or not.
In my case I have rescued 2 animals ( a siamses and a tabby) that
showed up in my yard both of which were abandoned and kept till
forvever homes could be found.
One, almost became my permenant cat but my niece and her hit it off so
i sadly let her go with my niece. Both are great and thriving :).

My dad doesn't allow house pets, but his barn cats are some of the
best-fed, best cared for animals around. And cats come from across
the county to live in his barn, taking up permanent residence.
We've had quite a few show up injured, thin, frightened...and turn
into snugglers under his hand.
He must have the sign on the barn.
