I'm at my computer and typing away, when Mischief jumps up onto my
desk. She walks right in front of the monitor, collapses/rolls onto
her side with her feet away from me, knocking over anything loose
nearby, (remote, empty water glass, pens). She starts purring and as
I 'ignore' her she tilts her head back and gives me a very pitiful,
upsy-downy head look.
At that point i have to scritch her chin and she starts rolling around
my desk, pushing into my hand, all while still knocking things over.
And .......
Dnag it. She just did it agani right now as I'm typing this, thic
time knocking over my inhaler and the remote, again.
Of course by scritching her I end up getin a bunch of cat hair all
over my desk and keyboard, not to mention i risk her drooling all over
my keyboard too.
*sigh*
Then there's Mayhem. The real funny thing about her is she HATES it
when i'm in the shower. Every time i finish my shower, i can hear her
crying right outside the bathroom door. I come out in my robe and
she immediately jumps up onto my bed and continues to cry for me to
pet her.
But the really funny part is that she flops onto her back and does the
funky little roll/rub on her back that cats do. It's really cute and
it's kinda hard to resist her rolling around showing that fluffly
tummy of hers.
So of course i rub her tummy and she starts purring. But then i stop
and move around the bed to my dresser to get my PJs. Mayhem, appalled
that I stopped will actually follow me as I move around the bed and
try to swat or grab the nearest hand. So i pet her again and she
flops around some more. Then i stop to head back to the bathroom.
This time as soon as I stop, Mayhem grabs my hand with both front paws
and nips it. Hey! Okay okay I'll pet you, AGAIN. Every time i stop
to move away she'll just try to follow me and continue to cry.
Same thing when i head to bed. As soon as I get into bed, it becomes
a competition befween Mischief and Mayhem to see who can get onto the
bed first to get scritches. Sometimes one will be up on bed already
and the otehr will jump up and land close to them. That usually
results in a staring contest that usally leads to growls, whines and
then an exchange of swats.
Then when I get settled one will come crying for attention and as soon
as I start petting one, then the other just HAS to get in on the
attention. They fail to see the concept that I only have two hands.
Then if Imp wants to jump onto the bed, he needs to be careful cause
sometimes when he does, Mayhem will start swatting at him cause if
Meowmie starts petting him, then that means Meowmie won't be paying
attention to HER.
Sheesh.......

and some people (who obviously have no idea) still think cats are
aloof and unfriendly! dont' know what cats they have met but none
which I know, most of my cats have all been the same kind of attention
seeking little so-and-sos as you have there, all about how you bring
them up and treat them i suppose.
good that you know you place as chief pussycat fuss-giver and scritch-
slave

I think those people who feel that way about cats give off that aura ofyt
negativity and cats, being naturally superiorly sentient beings, can pick up
on it. The same way they pick up on people who simply don't care for them (or
better: are petrified of them! :-) and gravitate toward them.
