Changed mind concerning Annie

Saw the oncologist yesterday.  Decided to try chemo, to keep her with
me a while longer.  The cost wasn't as high as I expected, and I
didn't realize that I could decide to stop treatment after a couple
times if there wasn't any improvement.  Annie had her first treatment
yesterday and will go back in 3 weeks for the next one.

The nurse did show me how to inject fluids to keep Annie hydrated, and
they sent a bag of fluid home with me.

Annie ate some last night, didn't seem interested in food today.

I know a lot of you have gone through various illnesses with your
babies.  Any advice on making sure she eats/drinks enough?
When I feed her with a syringe, I usually stop when she seems to be
done with it.  I suppose I could try to feed her more frequently.
Baby food seems to go over well with her, or I do Science Diet A/D
watered down.  I'm not even sure if I get enough in her.

Thanks for all the purrs.

That is such a difficult decision.  I hope that the chemo is helpful
and Annie doesn't have side effects.  Purrs and good thoughts
coming to both of you.

I hope you have made the right decision for Annie.  I've done the same thing
and afterwards..well, I wondered what was for me and what was for her to
gain just a few weeks.

I have nursed some of my pets through liver/kidney failure.  As their
appetite decreased, I cooked all sorts of lovely things to tempt them.  It
worked for a while.

Ask your vet if he thinks she will recover.  If not, purrs for the decision
you must make and hugs from me.  Don't let her starve if you cannot get
enough in her, just to keep her with you.

Little and often. Try to get a couple of cans a day into her in small
frequent feeds. It may be that her appetite is less because she is
feeling a bit off from the chemo. FWIW, my vet has told me in the past
that cats can and do respond very positively to chemo.

Purrs and prayers en-route for her to be comfortable and have excellent
quality of life for her time left.

I'm afraid I don't have any advice, but lots of purrs still coming over
for you and Annie and the path you chose for her.

I've never had this kind of experience but I think if I did, I would let the
kitty have all the catnip she wanted for the duration. Purrs that the
treatment works!!

the point to all of this is watching her for what she wants, you will know
when its enough food, water or chemo, I am so sorry you have to deal with
this pain, Lee
