Cat collars...

Smokey is proud to wear his collar.  It means he's OWNED.  "Why do you
say OWNED like it's a bad thing?  OWNED means I get food and a couch."
The vet who innoculated him did not give out cat ID tags claiming
"Cats won't wear them."  I asked for, and got, a dog tag instead.
Smokey likes it :)

Nocturne schized when we first put a collar on her because there was a
bell on it that rang when she moved.  I took my pliers and removed the
offending bell.  No more collar problem.

Tyche will NOT wear her collar.  She can pop it off within minutes.
It's as tight as we can get it and still she removes it.  I am afraid
to replace it with a collar that won't breakaway lest she
hang/strangle herself trying to get it off.  Bad bitty.

Kumani tried that a few times and then adapted.  Tyche is being
stubborn about it (it's been 3 months now...)

Not to mention a warm bed, scritches and food and water on demand.  Persia's
collar tag also indicates her name, phone number and the fact that she's
been micro-chipped.

While I will agree that cats rule the world, sometimes subordinates just
have to say you WILL do this.  Persia didn't like her collar at first.  She
adjusted to it.  She'll take if off when she's playing furiously, but it
goes right back over her head.  She's used to it.

I hear you, Fil.  Mistletoe (Missy) will NOT wear a collar.  We've tried 5
different times with different collars and they disappear within 15 minutes.
No joke.  Haven't found any of them yet, but I don't *think* she's eating
them.

<sigh> I suppose you were too smart to put an expensive engraved tag on
them! Mandy used to tolerate collars, although I don't bother now as they
are indoor except on leash these days. But Betsy *always* got out of them
and made most of them totally disappear.

I don't know what to do...we have hte same issue with Tyche's
collars...we can't always find them to put back on her.

At least Tyche (and Kumani) are microchipped.  Nocturne has a tattoo,
and while Smokey is unmarked save for his tags, he's also the one who
loves his collar and hates OUTSIDE.  (in his experience, OUTSIDE =
feline hell.)

Maybe try a harness? I've heard they're less hazardous anyway.

Cripes, Tyche freaks when she has to wear her harness to go outside
on the leash....though once she gets out, she's so busy eating bugs
that she forgets about the harness.  We're not gonna make her wear hte
harness around the house too.  At least she doesn't bust out of the
harness while outside....

Both cats have collars. Maggie, who was left in a parking lot
(declawed and spayed, but no one  claiming her), all but insists on
wearing it now. She has a "beastie band," with Celtic knots to reflect
her wanna-be Irish heritage (and her people's love of Irish dance).
She seems somewhat out of sorts if we take it off (get it brushed
under, etc.).

Eddy, the dumped kitten found on a Labor Day weekend bike ride, got a
collar before he made it home; a tag the next day. It, too, was a
Beastie Band, with chili peppers. It was too big for the little
kitten, and kept getting overly messy. So, we are using Maggie's old
one for the time being. He doesn't seem to mind it, though the first
few days he chewed at the long one. It will be bittersweet when he is
big enough for the Beastie Band.

Funny, my cat Zac RB although a testy or feisty cat, didn't mind
wearing a collarbut Henri also RB would not wear one, I've never
tried one on Wilson as he will not have a bar of the outside world
anyway.   Jean.P.
