Marblecake had her kittens this morning.
On our bed. She curled up close beside me and started alternately
purring furiously and making odd little squeaks - not exactly as if
she was in pain, more surprised. There was a wet patch where her
waters had broken. Then after a few minutes there was some more
squeaking, but from the other end. It took her about an hour and
a half to have four of them, snuggled up beside me all the time.
They are an odd assortment of colours and only one of them looks at
all like Splodge (who should have been the father as he lives here).
The first was shorthaired and the same colour as her mum, the second
was a semi-longhaired ginger (the biggest and most energetic), one
is a shorthaired tuxedo cat and the last was a solid grey shorthair
with a white and peach streak on her head. She has a stumpy nose a
bit like Splodge but isn't fully Persian-looking.
Splodge had a look at the process but decided breakfast was more
interesting, Muriel just slept through it all a few feet away on
the pillow. Chloe and Ishtar didn't even get off their armchair
to look. We went out during the afternoon and when we got back
Marblecake and the kittens were still in the same spot on the bed.
We have the most laid-back bunch of cats I've ever heard of.

Even without pics, you've given me a serious case of kitten fever!

In 1992 Rosie (RB) still lived next door to me but I thought she might have
her kittens on my bed, she spent the night lying next to me and I could feel
the kittens moving inside her. She went home in the morning and had her
kittens there.

Marblecake is a wonderful name! What an interesting range of colours. I
wonder if the kittens could have had two different fathers?

I agree Mum's name is delightful!
The kittens must be just precious! Glad everyone's fine...sounds like
the birthing was 'a piece of cake'. <grin>
