I guess more than a few have noticed that i haven't been here a heckuva lot,
and that we're still working on a certain card matter. I'ver had a sick, and
getting sicker, Louie for several weeks, and we didn't find out what the
problem was until a couple of days ago.

Some of you no doubt have heard of a certain peanut butter problem that hit
us literally in the gut. Seems my dear husband bought himself a couple of
jars of the salmonella-infused stuff andf kept it at his desk at work,
because the doctor hadf given him stuff for a bronchialo evil that had to be
taken with food. So he'd make himself some peanut butter and crackers, all
the while getting sicker and sicker until we came deadly close to having to
take him to hospital. The doctor sent him home after taking an eating history,
all the while wondering why everyone in town was suddenly bringing in their
kids with the same complaints. The upshot of it is that Louie has been
shlepping salmonella around for two to three weeks, and that's on top of
recovering from bronchial evil, and having an ulcer. So I do not have a well
Louie right now. I've put his tuchas to bed with a ginger ale and a hockey
game, and the cats have been so good; Stosh even came a while ago and gave
him one of the "spa treatments" he usually saves for me, and Sabrina has
learned a new trick, if you want to call it that: she gives real kisses on
the lips, it's just darling. She has been positively romantic with my husband,
and on Valentine's Day too. Needless to say we have to postpone the
festivities. We've forgotten to address a lot of cards, I slipped up paying a
couple of bills. I just want a healthy Louie again, now that we tossed the
offensive substance. It'll be a cold day in hell before we eat peanut butter
anytime soon. Please save a few opurrs for his poor gut, and one or two for
my exghausted butt, and apologies for not getting my stuff out. Mopping up
salmonella is just a nasty thing!

Blessed be,
Baha

Oh no! That sounds horrible. Sending our best purrs that Louie's health
returns quickly.

Thanks Dan, he has been getting better by bits and bits in the past two days,
I just worry. I'm very good at worrying. Today he had his second meal in five
days, and this one he finally seems to be keeping down. It has just been a
frustrating pain in the @$$. According to the CNN website the tainted Peter
Pan had appartently been in the stores since late fall, so i'd had some here
and there and had me a few good bouts of the terlit-trots. But Louie had been
munching on it daily at his desk and was just getting worse and worse. The
doctor had blamed it on the ulcer at first until the sudden influx of
schoolchildren. Now we have to go and fill out a report with the county;
several of Louie's coworkers also have the Peter Pan Pukies too, so it's been
a whole lot of no fun. Sometimes I just want to shake my fist at the heavens
and ask its citizens if they're having fun yet.

Blessed be,
Baha

What a miserable combination of things to have happen.  I'm guessing the
medication he was taking with the peanut butter was an antibiotic so it was
kind of self disguising.

My stomach hurts just thinking about what he must have been going through.
It hadn't really dawned on me that someone getting sick on the peanut butter
wouldn't just be a one time thing.  They would be making themselves sicker
and sicker a spoonful at a time.

Lots of purrs.  Lots of hugs.

As well as lots of keep up the good work thoughts for Liz and the clowder.

Best wishes for a rapid recovery from that most miserable condition.

I'm sure having the nurse cats on duty will help you feel better.

I have missed you and wondered where you were.  Welcome back.

about that in college that for years he went by his other name, Buxees.

Healing purrs being sent Louie's way.  Who would ever imagine peanutbutter
being contaminated.  I was shocked when I heard that on the news.  Sorry
Louie decided to buy that brand....Hope he recovers fully and quickly

Louie can have a bunch of nice, fresh, salmonella-free purrs from here.
Hope he fully recovers soon.  And you better watch Sabrina moving in
on your territory.  Maybe you should "mark" Louie?  Erm, maybe not!

I hope that Louie recovers soon.  I have had a few bouts with food
poisoning over the years.  Having a one-time bout of it is bad enough,
but having a continuing case must be much worse.  I wouldn't blame
either of you if you don't eat peanut butter from now on, given the
unpleasant memories.

Neither of us has a big taste for peanut butter right now, not even the
organic stuff. I'm afraid of what might have been growing even on the organic
farms. And too bad. We both love our peanut butter, and the Thai-style satay
sauces you can make with the organic stuff and nice spices! It'll be a long
while before we shop down that aisle of the supermarket again.

The good news is that Louie is doing a lot better now. He's keeping his
dinner down; yesterday he had more than one meal in a day since last week.
And as another person speculated, he was taking antibiotics for a while,
which only exacerbated the problem and kept the doctor from looking at
salmonella. He just gets more tired, more easily; but this'll get better with
time too. We even went to karaoke for the first time in weeks. He could only
handle a few songs, but I went nuts and now I'm the one hurting; with the
Louie-care and kitty care and digging the car out, I think I threw my tuchas
out of joint; and it's my own fault for trying to do an Elvis impersonation.
I'm not double-jointed back there!

Thanks for the Louie-purrs; they do work! And he's gotten some sweet little
kitty-kisses to make him feel better. I shall indeed have to mark him;
Sabrina's gotten quite romantic with my hubby lately, not that I mind though.
I don't want to find a surprise in my sneakers from jealous female some
morning!

Blessed be,
Baha

Hi Baha,

Why don't you make your own peanut butter? Take the fresh peanuts and
put them in a food processor or heavy duty blender,  add a bit of
olive or canola oil, and blend away! (Make sure you aren't in any cats
way, because when they hear that noise, they usually leave the room at
warp speed!)

I usually eat organic cashew butter or tahini  - I really don't care
for pb.

While it might be good, nothing beats a plain ole jar of peanut butter and a
sleeve of crackers in the desk drawer when you have to eat something.

I finally realized why such a large portion of the military grocery is
dedicated to various crackers and cheese or peanut butter snacks.  Duh.
Lots of retired customers and lots of diabetics.

I always buy Jiff.  Last time I ran out (which you don't do with teen age
boys in the house) there was no Jiff and it took a lot to decide on Peter
Pan vs Skippy.  Thank heaven Skippy won out.

I actually thought about getting one of those "Magic Bullet" things so we
could whip up our own, and it's a good idea; nothing beats the taste of
natural. But Louie's in no mood for peanut butter in any way, shape or form
right now; can't say I blame him!

About 8 years ago I got sick on candied walnut prawns (a Chinese dish),
and I still can't stand the taste of it. I think the reason it made me
sick was because I ate too much of the stuff, not because it was spoiled.
That's how much I *used* to like it.
