I'm so proud of Kayla today.  I've been wracking my brain trying to come up
with more ways to exercise her that don't involve more effort than I can
handle.  And early spring is here, so the kids are dragging out skates and
skateboards.

I made a deal with grandson Ryan that I'd buy him a pair of skates, if he
would agree to provide Kayla with a few runs around the park.

Today was our first outing.  Within minutes Kayla got the hang of the
skates, figured out this involved staying on the paved walkways, and was
towing Ryan around the park at high speed.  They both had a ball.

She is so pleased with herself that she learned something new and something
useful.  She knew she was the one doing the work and that Ryan was loving
it.

What an excellent solution to the problem, Jo!  Glad everyone got the
hang of things!

You're so clever!  It looks like everyone wins here. :)

That sounds like good healthy exercise for both of them, the mental image
makes me smile.

Border collies "need a job."
Is there anywhere you can take her swimming?  My lurcher had so much energy
that I used to have to get on a bike so she could trot for two hours beside
me.  Taking her swimming in a big lake for a couple of hours tired her -
until the next day!

I know there are places around here but I still haven't found out where.  I
won't take her in the river.  Other people take their dogs there but it is
just too dangerous.  She loves her kiddie pool and flops down in that in hot
weather.  But that isn't exercise.

She runs laps in the back yard, and plays soccer out there with a basketball
until her whiskers wear off.

There is a bike and walking path that goes on for miles and miles on top of
the river levees near us.  I'm really trying to figure out how to get me up
there to take her for long walks.  Maybe an electric scooter or an adult
three wheel bicycle.

Yesterday I took Ryan and one of his friends to the park and she wore out
both of them.

I love it when she cuddles up next to me on the sofa when she is tired.
Last night she was tired.

She will eventually calm down, you know.  When I left home I took my dog
with me.  My mother was more distraught at losing the dog than losing me! so
I bought her a border collie bitch puppy in the hope she would find it easy
to train.
OMG.  The puppy ate the wallpaper *and* the wall.  Doing an outrun for
pretend sheep all around the lounge at 10 weeks old every couple of hours
like some sort of automaton.
The bad news is, my mother hated me for buying her this monster for a couple
of years.  The good news is that when the collie finally settled down, it
was a real love match.  Hold in there Jo, it will improve ;-)

We seem to be past the worst of the eating the furniture and the walls.  I
do need to get the painter back to fill in and repaint some of the holes.
And to refinish a few chair legs.

The biggest thing right now is to reinforce some of her earlier training
that she is choosing to ignore.  I have never in my life seen anything as
single minded as this girl!

But I do absolutely adore her.

I'm sitting at the computer barefoot and she is napping on my feet.  Heaven
while it lasts.
