Check in Indiana - and other blizzard areas

As I sit here in Lafayette, having just received 20 inches of snow, I'm
wondering how Jeanne in Indianapolis is doing and how MMJ in Bloomington
are doing. There was more ice in that direction and maybe just as much snow.

We are under a snow emergency because there is too much snow to be
removed easily and as soon as it is removed, it just gets blown back
into drifts up to 3 or 4 feet high on the roads. So here, you can get a
ticket if you are on the roads and you aren't out for a medical reason
or you aren't law enforcement. This has been fine with me because I've
been sick now for about six weeks with a serious sinus infection (four
rounds of different classes of antibiotics haven't done much for it).
I've been running like crazy to keep up with doctor appointments, school
and work and needing sleep like crazy. My cat scan did not look good, so
I am probably going to have to have surgery at some point during the
semester to get the infection cleared up. Needless to say, I am enjoying
the snow days. I get to figure out my new computer, load software onto
it and go out and take some fun pictures of the results of the blizzard.
I'm catching up on homework and I may even get some things in on time
for a change for the semester. There is no cabin fever here. I am loving it.

I'm fine here - most schools closed, but still trying to find out if Ivy
Tech here is (it was yesterday, a day when I had no classes!).

About 6,000 in our area are without power, fortunately, ours is still on.
We had freezing rain & sleet yesterday - but last night it finally got cold
enough for snow.  The dog doesn't want to go out to poo or pee, so he's
staying in the kitchen where the vinyl flooring is!

Got showered, dressed and left the house, 1/2 the way to school, they
*FINALLY* (nuttin on their web site, and it wasn't announced earlier - as in
when I was getting dressed) announced that the Bloomington campus of Ivy
Tech was closed (but IU still has to go, but not until 12n LOL).

We had a snow day today in Albuquerque; ya'll would laugh as it was about 5
inches and from what I've heard it's in feet up in the northeast; but it is
enabling me to catch up finally on the newsgroup somewhat.  Bridget, so
sorry about your sinus infection; hope you get the right care to get it
cleared up.
regards,
Christine

I'm on the south side of Indianapolis (almost into Johnson County, for
those familiar), and that might have been one of the best locations
(other than far-southern Indiana, where my family tells me they just
got a lot of non-freezing rain) in the state to weather the weather
(no pun intended).  We had snow starting Monday night ending Tuesday
night/Wednesday morning, with the official total for Indianapolis (as
measured at the airport) at about 8.5 inches.

By the time I left for work Tuesday morning we had 4 or 5 inches of
snow on the ground in about 6 hours, so plowing was needed but it
really wasn't too bad. During the morning that snow changed over to
sleet and freezing rain, and kept at it all day. Fortunately it was
more sleet and less freezing rain, but it did make the drive home
interesting, in the Chinese way.  It changed back to snow for several
more inches late in the afternoon, and then the wind started blowing
and the temperature started dropping. By the time I went out to dig my
car out this morning there was a 4 foot snow drift in front of my
front door (fortunately far enough away that I could get the door
open!), and the plows had been through recently. The drive was more
difficult than Tuesday's was, but the drive home from work today,
under sunny but cold skies yet, was great. The major roads were pretty
much clear, the main secondaries were getting there, and they were
starting in on the side streets with a vengeance.

South of here, in MMJ's direction, I understand that they had a lot of
ice and power lines going down. The northern third of the state (such
as where Bridget lives), but really starting not too far north of
Indianapolis, was having blizzard conditions and a *lot* more snow.

During this entire thing Marion County (Indianapolis) officials never
did declare a snow emergency [but about 25% of the other counties in
the state did], so it was up to individual employers as to if people
had to go to work.  I had to go to work :p

Have they said when they're going to resume classes at Purdue
University yet?

I hope you are feeling at least a bit better by now, Bridget.
Lots and lots of purrs and hugs,
