Ok, Vino is a real wuss when it comes to his precious paws. He doesn't
even like to walk on grass. I've seen him gingerly using the stepping
stones to get from the side of the house to the back. When he does have
to walk on grass, he lifts his paws up way too high and kind of curls
them under with each step. You can definitely tell that he was a
pampered indoor only cat for the first 8 years of his life!
For Xmas, we got a big trampoline in the back yard. Vino hates the
sound it makes when I jump on it and always proceeds to the farthest
corner of the back yard to observe from a safe distance.
Just now, I got on to jump for a bit (it's insanely good exercise!) and
Vino was meatloafing in a sunny patch next to the back fence. As soon
as the springs began to squeak, he got up and went to move away. There
is a strip of sharp reddish lava type rocks along the back fence,
between the fence and my strawberry patch and tomato bed. He hates
walking on these rocks even more than grass. But I could tell that he
wasn't going to turn around to go the other way because he had to get
away from the evil trampoline noise more urgently. So what he did was
walk with his 2 left legs up on this 2x4 which holds the bottom of the
fence together. This way only his 2 right paws had to touch the rocks.
It was the funniest sight, he was laboriously limping along this way for
over 10 meters before getting to the paved area!
He then settled down in another sunny patch and glared at me balefully.
I decided I better get off and type up this post before the evil feline
death glare got to me...

SNIP
LOL!
I'm trying to picture Vino walking for over 30 feet with his left and
right paws on different levels.
I don't understand Vino not wanting to walk on the grass; it's
relatively soft and 'easy on the paws'.
Silly cat.

We took our fluffy tortie kitten Velcro with us on a trip to
a cottage on Mull. She'd never been outside the flat before.
She adjusted to being inside the cottage, but the outdoors
was all too much. We carried her down the hill and put her
on the grass. AAARGH!!! Cold wet stuff on my toesies! She
let out a loud wail and shot straight up my back to cling on
between my shoulderblades.

Same here - what comes to mind is those old cartoons with cars that have 4
different size tires and they are all oval (instead of round), so they were
all wobbly as they drove... LOL

His tootsies are ticklish! Grass tickles tootsies - ergo... avoid grass :D
It reminds me of a local stable that used to be near here - they offered
(for a price, of course) guided rides through some of the wooded (forest,
almost) area near Lake Monroe - and one of their horses was a former show
horse. Beautiful (and huge) strawberry roan named Big Red. He didn't like
walking in the dirt/mud of the trail, so would go along the *edge* of the
trail... and nearly peeled me off his back in the process from getting too
close to the trees! Both my knees ended up bruised and scraped from that
(and yes, I was wearing thick jeans - but trees are *hard* :D). He also
didn't like crossing the creek - and I had no idea that he had leapt *over*
the creek until he landed and I almost flew over his head! Poor guy was so
used to the clean sawdust-and-concrete flooring of the show arena, he just
*hated* getting his feet(hooves) dirty (actually, I think it was that he
didn't like the squishy feeling of the mud)!

Poor baby. We have a six inch wide mowing strip all around our grass.
Otherwise known as a kitty cat sidewalk. Kind of cute the watch them
carefully circle the yard on their walkway, only to flop down in a sunny
patch of dirt.

Loved your post, so funny, Boyfie would like to say to Vino that he is
brave enough to put his pawses in "actual mud."

LOL - what wonderful imagery. A pampered kitty avoiding getting his
sensitive toes scratched!
We had a trampoline for years when I grew up and it is fabulous exercise and
lots of fun!
