In Wake Of Fatal Fire, Shelter Adopts Out 13 Pets
39 Animals Died In Electrical Fire Last Week

SANFORD, Fla. -- The people who run Seminole County Animal Services said the
public outpouring of support since last week's fire killed 39 animals has
been overwhelming.

The shelter reopened this weekend, and work continues to place dogs and cats
in loving homes, WESH 2 News reported.

Officials were able to save 273 animals from the fire that raced through the
garage area of Seminole County Animal Services.

Four days later, the shelter is back in business and engaged in the endeavor
of finding homes for creatures who need a new family.

The fire that killed 32 cats and seven dogs motivated Kathy Andrews.

"When the fire came, it just sort of galvanized me to go get a new dog right
away," she said.

It was a busy weekend at the shelter. The shelter is running on a generator
because the fire knocked out the main electrical system to the garage.

But that hasn't stopped prospective pet owners from coming out since the
shelter re-opened Saturday.

"The public came in, we adopted out 13 animals, which is a big help for us.
They all found good homes," said Animal Services' Mike Wittmer.

But there are hundreds of animals left in tight quarters.

The shelter is seeking funds from the county to help rebuild and repair so
it can stay in the business of providing loving homes for the survivors.

That's wonderful news Matthew. I hope people keep coming forward to
help,,and this tragedy bears some good fruit for some of the animals at
