Totally OT - could you possibly purr for a rabbit?

I think I've told you all before about my friend Bob in Michigan who pretty
well rescues any animal or bird that needs it.
He sent me this mail tonight..

We've got a very sick rabbit at the vet. In the scheme of things, it
isn't very important. Rabbits don't live all that long anyway, and there
is so much for serious in the world. But Frieda is a doll, and we've
learned she has pneumonia, among a couple of other things. So it is
touch and go with her. I'd be pretty okay about it, if it weren't for
how terribly upset Linda is. I'm like a gong. I vibrate according to the
energy of those around me. So, while I came home from the vet happy that
at last they've figured out what's wrong with the rabbit, I soon got
very depressed because Linda was so upset.

So, could we have a few purrs and prayers for Frieda the rabbit?
Thanks.

Absolutely, all animals are important, not just cats. Purrs being sent
for Frieda, may she have a swift recovery. Purrs also being sent to
Bob and Linda, they sound like such nice people.

Of course Frieda can have purrs. We're purring hard here for her to pull
through.

Awww, we've had pet rabbits for years. I hope Frieda pulls through. They
know so much more about rabbits than they did a few years ago.

I'm sorry he felt that he needed to say it wasn't important in the
scheme of things. I had to take off work when we lost our first rabbit
(at 11 years old...) It was traumatic -- they're as good a house pet as
a cat or dog.

Hope Freda is doing better,

He didn't mean it like it sounded, we had been discussing something else
quite serious only a few hours before, so that was only part of his mail and
out of context it does look like it seems he's minimizing it, but I can
assure you that's not the case.
Bob loves all his rescues probably more than he should for his own peace of
mind.  He writes books about them.  You could have a look at his website if
you would like to.

I'm going to mail him in a while to see how Frieda is doing.

Bob says this tonight:

"She seems to be a bit better, which is good news.
We might be able to bring her home tomorrow, but that doesn't mean
everything is okay. Not until she starts eating again."

I haven't told him yet that I asked for purrs and prayers for her on rpca.
Maybe I should have asked his permission, but I took it into my own hands.
I will tell him about the power of purr and prayers on this group when she
recovers.
He has no idea about it, I have never shared it with him.
Lets just see what happens for Frieda with the worldwide purrs and prayers
for the poor bunny.

I wouldn't say rabbits aren't good pets.  My aunt, she must be 87 years old
now, had a rabbit when she was a kid that was housebroken.  She taught it to
use a litterbox.  That bunny hopped around the house for years.  It never
had to live in a hutch in the freezing Pennsylvania winters.  They make
wonderful pets.  Purrs for the bunny!

I love this group for loving all animals!  When I was in an apartment
where we couldn't have uncaged pets, I had a gorgeous black rabbit
with a white star on his forehead, named Starlight (of course).  It
was very traumatic when he died!  Purrs for yours.

It sounds pretty bad for Frieda now, I got this mail just now:
----------
Frieda isn't going to make it. The first day or two that we had her
home, we thought she was getting a little stronger, but she is starting
to fade and doesn't even want to swallow when we tube feed her. Poor
thing. But she spends most of the day sleeping, so I don't think she is
in any pain. I think she'll just fall asleep and not wake up. It is a
shame. She is such a sweet rabbit, never did any harm to anybody. But
that's how things go.
----------------

Please rev up the purr motors one more time for Frieda, just in case it can
help.
Thanks

Bad news I'm afraid folks, Frieda went to the RB.
Thanks very much for all your purrs.  It was definitely worth a try.

Bob & Linda are pretty upset.  They always seem to think it's their fault if
they lose an animal or bird, but it never is.  The reason is (IMO) that
their critters have usually been rescued from fairly horrendous
circumstances which often reduces their life expectancy.  No expense is ever
spared on medical treatment if it is required.

I have never known them refuse to take any animal or bird that has been
abandoned, fallen from the nest, or is plain unwanted.  Not large animals
like horses, goats and sheep, they aren't geared up for them but any cat,
turkey, goose, dove, quail, parrot, lovebird, budgie, canary, mouse,
hamster, rabbit etc in need is guaranteed a place in their home.
They don't advertise this of course, otherwise they would be inundated, but
any little furry or bird that is desperate that comes to their attention is
taken in and cared for for its lifetime.
I am proud to be their friend.

It really takes a special strong and loving heart to take in the lost and
injured.  Most of us would protect our hearts from the inevitable loss.
