I have started wearing a skirt.
It was my mother's idea, about forty years ago. Ting, our first cat,
loved sitting on her lap but rarely ventured onto mine. My mother
diagnosed that skirts were more comfortable for cats and suggested I
should wear one. I declined politely.
However, recently I got tired of Nanki Poo, who rarely deigned to sit
on my lap, and even if he did, shot off the moment Liz sat down. So I
tried a towel stretched tightly like a skirt.
I won a beach towel playing bridge in Hawaii, and now I put it on my
lap, tightly. Nanki Poo will stay for hours - and even Minke has
deigned to stay for five minutes. I even have to move Nanki Poo
sometimes when I need to go to the loo.

Charlie has come up with a more permanent solution to the problem. He grew
an "extra lap" for the cats. Some of us humans refer to it as a beer belly,
but the cats know the truth.

Hmm. I have a belly too, but that makes my lap *smaller*. Of course, I
do have the "upper shelf" to offer my cats. :)

My 'upper shelf' is where my cats prefer to lounge, usually propped up
by an arm. They never lay in my lap.

What a good slave. The next thing will be shaving your legs. ;-)

Sonny will only sit on my lap if I'm under a comforter. If the
comforter isn't there and he wants to lapsit, he'll put his front paws
on my lap and wait. That means I'm to fetch it and put it on. I'm well
trained, in the winter anyway.

Tiger weighs 23 pounds. I always put a folded towel on my lap before he
sits there. This is to prevent his claws from digging in if he is
startled by anything such as the phone ringing.

I did this too! I had a towel for summertime, which I pinned to my
left armrest, and tucked under my right thigh. It created a hammock.
In the winter, I had a blanket that Betty liked to lie on and knead.
