Mary, Lake Helen was all over the news last night; it got hit badly. I'd
make a phone call.

Okay, thanks. I'll do that. I was holding off for awhile because I assumed
that there were many relatives trying to get through to people in that area,
but now I'm going to try to call.

Kili and Matthew,
I just tried to call Judy and got a recorded message that said,"The number
you called is not a working number." It's possible that she changed her
phone number, but this *really* has me worried. Is there any news source
that has posted a list of people who are known to have been killed or
injured?
Thanks,
Mary

All I know are 19 people killed as of right now. LOTS of damage though. It
could be that just the phone lines are down. All I can suggest is to keep
trying.

Especially in the case of a natural disaster, I doubt
whether the phone company could be that fast in
discontinuing service to a deceased customer! When service
has been disrupted by downed lines, etc. you are likely to
get all sorts of "disconnect" messages, simply because the
systems are overloaded. I'd keep trying every couple of
hours, until they have a chance to restore service. Chances
are your friend is okay, even if you can't reach her by
phone right now.

Good news! I reached my friend (her phone number really had changed), and
she and her family are fine. She said a lot of the damage was only about 3
miles from her, though.

I'm very glad to hear your friend is OK, still very sad for the people and
animals that aren't.

I should have read ahead. Thank goodness, though. Glad she's okay.

I just saw your post. The only people killed were in lady Lake and Paisley.
There is a lot of storm damage in that area. I am just minutes from Lake
Helen they took a little storm damage mostly knocked down trees and power
line like my area. The brunt of the damage was in Deland than out towards
new Smyrna Beach it started out in lady lake than to Paisley than to Deland
out to NSB
I live out near there in between Lake Helen, Deland, Osteen and New Smyrna
Beach. We had some trees down but myself and a few others had the out
before the repair crews even came out. Our little neck of the woods was hit
hard during 2004 hurricanes we learned to deal with problems our self.

I saw some pretty horrific shots on the news last night. Prayers and purrs
for all those affected.
