I finally got a decent picture of Pua.  She was sitting in my chair, looking
at me and sat still enough for me to get the camera.

The stripe on her body is a shadow from the arm of the chair; her body is
basically white.

Thought I'd share.  Oh, for those of you that remember, when she showed up
at my door a year and a half ago, she was grossly skinny, riddled with
ringworm and was a mess.  I think she's blossomed.  :~)

She is really lovely.  A flame point, right?  Hard to imagine her ever being
anything less than beautiful and loved.

I think she's a red point meezer, but I'm just guessing.  I have no idea
what her story is, but I'd sure love to hear it.  She's my little girl and
follows me around the house constantly.  I love that cat.

She does, all the time!  When you do give her a rub, she lays down and rolls
all over the place.  She's such a sweetheart.

Do you still have a "before" photo of Pua? I don't remember what she
looked like when you first took her in, and I'd be interested in seeing
the transformation.

Wow, poor Pua!! :( She really must have been feeling quite miserable to
look like that. I put each picture in a separate tab in my browser so
I could click back and forth. That is just amazing. I am now even more
impressed at how wonderfully you've brought her back!

I did that too, with the tabs. After seeing the before picture, I just
had to look at the after picture so I wouldn't feel so bad. It's so good
to know she is now the beautiful, well-rounded, bright-eyed cat in the
second photo.

She was really pitiful.  Sweet, sweet girl, though.  She needed us and we
needed her.  How she knew to find us and what her story really is, we'll

My husband and I saw her outside our front door and immediately our hearts
went out to her.  She was too frail to even take to the vet right away, so
we fed her for a week and then took her in for shots, spaying, etc.  We had
to isolate her for 3 months until the ringworm was gone, but it's all been
worth it.  She's a happy member of the household, now.

That is hard to look at, kili. I remember when she showed up at your
house and you loved her immediately.

The "after" picture is gorgeous. She was in that body all of the time,
just waiting to come out.

You should send that story in to that Borders animal rescue book thing
that Karen posted about. You and Pua would win top honors, hands down.

Thanks, Susan.  She's my constant little shadow; she's a really, really good

appreciative.  Oh, and she doesn't mind being kissed!  Tyrone, OTOH, can't

Meezers often get darker as they age.  The degree to which pigment
shows in Meezers is tied to skin temperature, so they darken in the
winter (assuming that it gets colder in the winter), and as mammals age
their metabolic rates drop, so the skin gets cooler.  This is also why
the color shows on the extremities... the skin temperature is cooler
than the body.

I meant to add a post to this long ago, and forgot!

What I've heard about pointed cats is that their markings are
heat-sensitive. Their points are always the darker areas because there
is less circulation (or heat) in those areas.

My theory is that when a pointed cat gets older, they tend to get darker
in general because their circulation slows down. Our last siamese got
darker in her later years, her body color and her points. She also had a
large cyst on her shoulder that was filled with a watery substance that
the vet really didn't want to remove at her age. It was harmless but
really stuck out. That area turned very dark brown too, being away from
the body. She developed another "point."

Two of the kittens born to our last stray were tan. I'd never seen a
yellowish/tan cat before. Well, within 24 hours, they started developing
points! I think they were nice and warm inside mom and in the real
world, the temperature dropped.

Princess (Siamese RB 16) got very dark in her old age.  However, in the
last few months of her life, her fur got lighter and lighter.  When she
died she was almost ivory color.  (How I miss her).  MLB

Her fur got lighter? That's interesting. What did she die from? Is there
any possibility her system was heating up, like a thyroid problem?

We did have a pointed rabbit, white with black points, who one summer
went completely white. It was during a drought/heat wave in the midwest.
It was terrible, we lived in the upper floor of a house and for a couple
of months the temp hit 100 degrees every day. It didn't quit. When Buns
molted during that time, he became a white rabbit. I felt so bad, he
must have been incredibly hot! He did get some relief by laying against
the base of the toilet, and we kept wetting down his ears. In the fall
with the next molt, he got his points back.

Yes, she was hyper thyroid and couldn't tolerate the medication.  The Vet
said she had no chance of surviving surgery.  At that time I was
recovering from knee and hip surgery and could not walk well - could not
get to the floor and could not drive -- I had no help   with her at all,
so nature had to take its course.  It stil tears me up to think of it.

I know, I should put a before and after together of her.  When she first
arrived at our door, she was gross.  I mean GROSS - almost not touchable.
So skinny, I don't think she would have lived another day and patchy fur
from ringworm.  It took about a year to get her completely well, but now
she's content, comfortable, she plays with the other cats in the house and
she's just a sweetie.  (I wish she would be a little "neater" in the
litterbox, though.)  LOL.

I remember the pic of Miss Pua lying on her side in the grass, looking
more dead than alive. And I remember your long, long battle with
ringworm, too.

Miss Pua has the most beautiful eyes (as well as everything else!)

What a wonderful, lucky kitty Miss Pua is!

Gandalf, she knows she's lucky and I'm not just saying that.  My other two
were born in our shed and have always known us, or people in general, and
they are the most spoiled, ungrateful little devils you can imagine.  If I
ever aquire another little fur-baby, I'm taking in another stray.  Pua KNOWS
that we helped her.  She never does anything wrong, she comes when she's
called (if she's not stuck to my side), and she's just the sweetest little
thing.  We bonded and we both feel it.
