An important point. However, a bobcat is very dangerous to pets when it
ISN'T rabid. Well, most pets. People with horses probably don't have to
worry.

Rabies isn't the only grave disease carried by bobcats; there is also the
99.9% fatal cytauxzoonosis felis - for which there is NO vaccine and NO
CURE. It doesn't hurt the bobcats, as they are immune to the organism that
causes it. They spread it to domestic cats via the ticks that feed on their
blood. The illness is most prevalent in the mid-south and southeastern U.S.:
