I noticed that our only cat which was 'adopted' by us as a kitten(her mother
was killed by a Raccoon) prefers to lay/sleep/eat on paper. He will go into
a big room with lots of nice soft carpet or furniture, and if there is a
newspaper laying on the rug or on the furniture, will curl up on it.
Recently he will not eat out of the bowl we got, but we have to put the
food out on a paper besides the bowl.
Do any of the rest of you have cats with such idiosyncrasies?

It's not that they would rather sit in newspaper than anything else.
It's just that if there *is* newspaper lying spread out, the cat will
almost always sit on the paper. If you are doing your taxes, the cat
will come sit on your forms. If you are reading a book, the cat will
sit on the book. We believe that they read through their butts. ;)

Yes, they do read through their fuzzy little butts. But this strange
behavior goes one step further, they combine this power with the power
to read minds. If you're separating a newspaper into the sections you
want to read and sections you're going to trash, a cat will always sit
on the pile you're going to read. If you have two or three stacks of
paperwork on your desk, the cat will sit on the one you need right
now.

My cats LOVE newspaper on the floor. If there is even a scrap lying around,
they are pulled to it like magnet.

Mine too, especially Nikki. But then, Nikki loves any paper on the
floor. I throw down wrapping paper for her to sleep on. My place always
looks a mess with lots of paper, paper bags and cardboard boxes strewn
around.
For my recent birthday, I got a present that was wrapped in silk paper.
Oh how both cats loved that paper! Even Frank left his beloved bed to
sleep on the silk paper. I had to throw it away finally, as it was
getting shredded and dirty.

I don't think I've ever heard of silk paper!

Yes, the purrfect cat gifts would be two or three wrapped kitty-size
boxes filled with tissue paper. To make it even better, include a
couple paper bags. You could even sprinkle a little nip over the
tissue paper - but the slave may be upset when the cats leave paper
shreddings all over the house, and the cats may open the presents
early.

Well, no one here has a paper fetish to that extent, but they all have
their little particular, and sometimes bewildering, preferences.
Afterall, what's the use of being a cat if you're not confusing the
hoomins.

My family used to have a yellow tiger stripe. It would sleep on its back
with its head on linoleum, and the tail end on the carpet. Paws in every
direction. No, we don't have photos. Yes, I wish we did.

Maybe yellow tiger stripe figured if it did that, it could be
everywhere all at once

Sometimes I wonder if the whole paper thing is about comfort, or if
the cat sees the paper as something out of place, and goes over and
lays down on it to 'cover' it up to make the room all tidy.
Yea, I know........that's {{{ o u t t h e r e }}}

SMOKEY SEZ:
hey Dad, you c'n have that newspaper on the couch, but, like, this is
MY couch an' stuff, so don't be surprised if I poke on your paper,
'kay?
Smokey's finally developing that feline sense of entitlement. The
couch is HIS. It's funny to see Dilly trying to read the paper
holding it vertically--he'd rather lean it on the cushion sitting
sideways, but then it'd get poked on for sure--squished on one cushion
while Smokey is sprawled out on the other two at once.
