Happy purrday Otis!  As Fred said this morning, Otis has had amazing
longevity for a cat with such poor judgement!

He's annoyed Fred *yet* again by his latest claiming of the cat scratchers.
Otis is very territorial about scratchers leaving Chester with only one
outlet - our beautiful mattress.  This is slowly driving Fred over the edge.
He went out and bought two *more* scratchers and placed them strategically
around the bed.  Otis found them and fell in love with them.  Rolled on
them, scratched them, laid on them -  the whole bit.   Chester came in and
made a bee-line for the cardboard scratcher and Otis went ballistic and
drove him from the room.  Little sh&t!

Chester used the cardboard one this morning though so maybe Otis won't hog
it forever.  I guess he can't be at more than one place at any given time so
maybe he won't be able to totally enforce it.  Poor cat is going to be
beside himself ;-)

Hoppy Purrday Otis! No plans of becoming a distinguished elderly
gentleman yet, then?

I don't hold out hope for the distinguished elderly gentleman role for him -
I suspect that he'll be the grumpy old man as he ages.  Chester, however

I always thought Otis was mellowing as he aged. :)

Thank you Sherry!  I'm not sure I want that title to go to Otis' head
though - I'm not going to tell him about it ;-)

Those last two sentences.  They are getting to you aren't they! ;~)'

Now relax and watch the cats for instruction on rest.

Not until next week - first I have to clean out the all the little odds and
ends from two rooms, then put away laundry, then take the computer
downstairs, then finish the filing, then set up the baby's room, finish some
more laundry, pack the hospital bed  .....  :D

Monday is rest day!

Happy birthday Otis!  Is he getting something special for dinner tonight?

ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!!  He gets the odd table scrap of fresh cooked meat and
that will have to do tonight for him.  Mom is TOO BUSY to go shopping for
such an ingrate as my darling Otis-cat.  (I really do love him dearly)

Happy Birthday, Otis!! Actually, it's amazing that he hasn't been
throttled by some haggard human or other. :)

Oh, poor Chester! Well, I guess Chester makes do, at your expense (literally).

I hope he figures out that he can get away with using a scratching post
when the dictato- er, I mean your darling Otis is in another room.

Do I detect a note of revenge? :)

I can picture it again now - a rerun of last time with kids.  Middle of the
night nursing - keeping the door closed so that Otis doesn't come in and
jump on us.  Instead, baby just drifting off and Otis settling in for a good
yowl outside the door, punctuated by scratching at the door for good
measure.  He *is* lucky he hasn't been throttled!  He used to open the
pantry door and knock down cans of food to get my attention when I was
nursing, he used to go into the basement under the baby's room and yowl, and
used to go outside the window!  I kid you not!

> Oh, poor Chester! Well, I guess Chester makes do, at your expense

Yes, he makes do and also, Chester isn't really the hen pecked type.  He
doesn't cower around Otis and could more than hold his own with Otis in a
fight.  He just does a little cat shrug and figures its not worth it it
seems.  I would feel terrible if I thought Chester was truly being bullied.

> Do I detect a note of revenge? :)

Is it so obvious ?  ;-)

I always have assumed that he'll hang on until his twenties - sleeping, but
still managing to look ornery, on the bed!

Maybe there should be more than one scratcher in each room of the
house. Purrs for Chester to get some scratching and Otis to calm down.
