Just got off the phone with Mom - she had a follow-up to the surgery: the
lymph nodes were clear, and they did get *all* of the tumor, but she will
still have radiation therapy just to be sure.

She's lucky she can have radiation. They decided to nix it for me because
the site is too close to my heart and they wanted to avoid further damage.
I so dearly wish your mother the best of health and luck.

This sounds like great good news for this stage. Now you both can at least
consider relaxing a little bit.

YAY!!! My mom had a similar experience with breast cancer... tiny
tumor (so small the DR could only feel it when he was looking at the
X-ray, and even then he wasn't sure... in order to get enough to
biopsy, they had to take the whole thing), clear lymph nodes and a
round of radiation. No further treatment needed, and she was clear of
cancer until she died over 15 years later (from completely something
unrelated).

Wonderful news.My Mom had radiation therapy after her surgery and is doing
fine now. Have your Mom ask her doctor for some cream/ointment to put on the
spot where the radiation is done. The area will look like a sunburn and this
will help.
