Sorry to say yesterday was a 'holiday', Martin Luther King's birthday.

" Early morning, April 4, shot rings out in the Memphis sky..."

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2boKBrk1EPk

I didn't live here then... in 1969 I was living in Bangkok.  I always
wondered what prompted a British band to sing about this.

Every city has its terrible moments  (I just finished reading "Devil
in the White City") but that was particularly terrible.  I sometimes
wonder what might be different if the assassinations of the '60s had
not taken place.

Actually, he was assassinated in '68. I can't imagine what it must have
been like in Memphis when that happened - probably just as well you were
out of the country!

Aren't they Irish? Sorry, I'm being a detail geek today. :)

Sorry to be anal, but they're not British, they're Irish.  U2 have
always been into politics, right from the early days when I used to go
see them play in tiny London pubs, and they used to sleep on my friends
floor (she worked for their promoter and they had no money then).

My son moved to NewZealand 3 years ago  and took his 2 cats with him.  They
settled down well, but today I had an e-mail telling me that his Balinese
Kylie is at the vets,   having trouble with her teeth.  Her blood test shows
that her kidneys are really bad,  only about 20% function.    Please purr
for her.

Lots of purrs and gentle headbutts on the way for your Kylie and your
son that the vet is able to help resolve the problems with Kylie's teeth
and find a solution to the kidney problem.

Purrs are headed around and down the world! I really hope the right
meds and food can maintain the kidney function for a long time to
come.

In fact, I just read in the paper that Mr. Hewson was honored in this
year's royal honor roll, but he can't be called "Sir Bono" as he is
not a British subject-- unlike Sir Bob Geldof, who hails from Northern
Ireland, and thus *is* a British subject.
