Exhausted and embarrassed

Oy, I am an exhausted mess! I haven't been on as much as I'd like, as I'd
been down for the count with a sinus infection that decided to come in on the
coattails of the Flu of Evil. I hate myself. Everyone be prepared for some
very, VERY late cards. Please don't beat me. I'd like to think positive and
think that I'm giving you all Christmas cheer for the rest of the year, but I
haven't had any damn strength. My work has been very kind to me about time
off; everyone here has been sharing their cooties. But, please Lord, enough
already with this! The doctor throws up his hands, gives me something that
makes me stoned while temporarily opening up my raw nose and says let the
thing run its course, that's what he's been telling the other half of Buffalo
that's come in with the same complaint. Thank you, Mutha-in-law, for your
latest contribution to my chemistry. I've been like a hibernating bear and
haven't been able even to go exercise since early December. Forgive this sick
little procrastinator. Pretty please?

Mama Singh has also made the mistake in bringing a nice plate of Deli Pig.
Trayf. Non-kosher. Smoked Porky. Roxie has been all over the refrigerator and
has not been so vocal in a long time. The problem is, I know my Beauty Queen
and she's smart and resourceful enough to open the door and steal the swine.
We'll have some happy kittens come dinner time.

Blessed be,
Baha

Purrs enroute. As is forgiveness for late cards. I still haven't mailed
all of ours, either.

Welcome to the club. Been fighting off pneumonia for the last week and a
half. Looks like I'm finally starting to gain ground on the damn thing,
and now Nancy is getting sick. Can't seem to win. Everybody at the office
has been/is/will be sick. I'm *so* tired of being sick!

Just wondering.  Did  any of you have flu shots this Fall?  MLB
Stormin Mormon - 16 Jan 2007 03:38 GMT
I've talked to MANY people who got the flu right after the shot.
Enough that I no longer consider it a coincidence.

May I reccomend avoiding the shot if you don't want to get sick?

Believe it or not I did, right when they were just starting to give them out.
My doctor says there are three strains of nasties going around right now, and
the first flu I caught was not the one in the shot; there is a stomach bug
from hell too, which i fervently pray won't be next; I've had enough! What
came in a couple of weeks or so ago was an ugly bout of sinusitis, made worse
by having had a genuine flu a few weeks earlier. Half of Louie's family has
the same nasal bug, and everyone's doctor is saying the same thing: that the
ugly little thing can hang about for up to four to six weeks in the cases of
those who caught it on top of the chest bug! I'm pretty religious about
getting my flu shot too. This crackpot weather we've been having (spring to
ice in a matter of hours) has not helped.

Having a nice plump cat lie on top of you, purring like a machine, is better
than pills.

Blessed be,
Baha

What is this with everyone getting sick.  Dan, please take care of yourself.
We don't need you in the hospital.

I do hope you're joking here. But in case you're not, my goodness, please
don't give yourself such a hard time over something like this! You might
have noticed that folks here are pretty relaxed and loose about the sending
and receiving of Christmas cards. Nobody's going to beat you! Besides,
you're already doing much too good a job on yourself already.

I'll bet that your card recipients will be very happy to receive their
cards now - it'll perk them up during the January Slump. It's never too
late.

Oh, do you keep kosher? Luckily, your kitties don't. :)

Joyce
Baha - 16 Jan 2007 03:49 GMT
No, we're not exactly Kosher; Sikhs don't have restrictions on what kind of
meat they can eat except that the beast must be killed in one clean stroke.
And as irritating as I find Mutha-in-law sometimes, she can make one
delectable Deli Pig. (We use code words for h*m because I don't trust Roxie.
Last time I said the H word away from home she met us at the door and asked
where the hell was her Porcine Piece. Being tall and thin, she is a natural
antenna and can pick up signals from Canada.) I can see where you might think
we're Kosher though; i guess I do spread the Yiddish around a bit. I just
watch too much Fran Drescher. I sheepishly admit to being a Nanny fan, and my
husband has turned into a positive Nanny Geek and bears the insults from his
co-workers with great fortitude.

Sabrina loves it when we come home and turn on the Nanny episodes we tape
each morning. It's her cuddle-and-pet time with me and Louie and she gets
prickly if one of the other kitties comes in while the video's rolling.

I think it gets confusing for some, as many Sikh's are completely
vegetarian.  Still others will eat chicken or fish but not pork or beef.
Many do not drink.  Some do.

I do know the fast food places around here keep careful track of when the
Sikh holidays and festivals are that will draw a lot of out of towners.
They will sell a lot more chicken and a lot fewer hamburgers.

With the cold and windy weather we've been having I did see something new,
to me anyway.  I take Kayla to a large park near here nearly every day.
There is a large Sikh community here and many of them are very committed to
a healthy lifestyle including daily walks.  There is also a group of older
men that sort of meet in the park most days.  Two of the men I see all the
time were walking a few days ago.  One was wearing a parka with the hood up
over his turban.  The other had a chin strap attached to his turban so it
couldn't blow off.

Jo
Baha - 16 Jan 2007 16:55 GMT
You're right, there are differences. The father in law is a vegetarian but
not for religious reasons. He made a vow when Louie had a two-storey fall out
a window when he was a baby. Louie healed from a badly broken leg, and Doc-
Sahib continues to honor his meat-free vow to this day. Better man than I am;
I couldn't go without the occasional steak! I do know some Sikhs who believe
that meat is murder and give me and Louie hell because we do like our burgers
every now and again. But this is the good thing about our holy writings, is
that they are open to much personal interpretation more than dogma.

But to know a word like "trayf" - you are an honorary Jew. :) (And probably
an honorary Sikh as well!)

What I'm doing is trying to find any and all resources for descendants of
survivors, because the survivors are dying off and we need to know for the
sake of history and mental health what is happening as a result of Hitler's
evil. To document what it is like growing up with it over your head, and what
becomes of individual and family relationships down the line; and to get
people to realize that there is no shame in talking about it. If we don't
talk about it we don't learn from it, and we sure as hell don't heal from it.

That's quite honorable, healing. I'm sure different people
approach from different directions. And do different things.
Curious what was your approach.

Sad to hear that you're sick. Do what you can to get better. If
my card is a bit late, that's perfectly fine.

I've been sick twice so far, this winter. Once was the same day I
was scheduled to travel to a different church congregaton and
give a talk at their sacrament meeting. I was totally
disappointed.

Power winked out for about a second this morning. The entire city
here is coated in ice. The trees and plants and bushes are all
coated in ice. It is very beautiful. And the roads are heavily
salted, so it's fairly safe to drive. But our cars will rust out
next summer.

"Don't worry about the cards, use the time and energy to get well.  I know
it really is a pain to be sick.  I'm hopeing that I don't get it since i

Sad to hear that. I'l be in the temple later today. Perhaps we
can mix medicine, as some have said. Combine  your Sikh prayers
with putting Louie on the LDS prayer roll. Can't hurt.

I have been neglecting my friendship role. Sorry. With my church
meeting 1 to 4 PM this year, it's a lot less likely that I'll be
out your way for meetings. Never know, maybe when it warms up,
I'll ask someone to cover for me, and do church in your part of
the world.

As miserable the weather, I've not had much work. And we're not
all that far away. I'll try and remember to call tonight after 9
PM when it's a free call on the cell phone.

Hope Louie is feeling a lot better, and soon. Anything I can do?
In addition to purrs, of course...
