Kathryn - 11 Jan 2007 03:28 GMT We took her to the vet a few hours ago, her kidneys finally gave out. She was fine yesterday, this morning she ate breakfast but then she was falling over when she tried to stand up or walk. An effect of the kidney by products affecting her brain.
We had a cuddle and said goodbye..
I've known this would happen for so long but it still hurts.
Thanks for all your purrs and thoughts

Our friends that have past speak ours all the times you know they do. You feel it every time the winds blows across your face or you catch the glimpse out of the corner of your eye. ;-)
I wrote this after reading the rainbow bridge for the first time. I knew it was incomplete so these words flowed from my heart to my hand. Now I give it to every one who has lost a piece of their soul.
Always remember We will be there even if you can't see us. We are always Watching and Waiting. That cool puff of air you feel across your cheek, that fleeting touch, the feeling you have that I was walking across your bed, that moment you swear you can hear us, that flicker of movement out of the corner of your eye. Is just our way of saying I love you and I am with you always even in the darkest time We Will Always Be There. Till our paws touch again always know we love you and cherished our special time together

There is no way to really get ready for losing your beloved kitty, no matter how long you have been trying to prepare yourself.
I have lit a candle, in my very special candle holder in the shape of a sleeping cat, for your Sesame's trip to the Bridge.
And purrs are on the way to help ease your grief.

She > was fine yesterday, this morning she ate breakfast but then she was falling [quoted text clipped - 8 lines] > > Kathryn Kathryn, Sesame was fortunate to have you for her human. It always hurts to lose them! But I don't think anyone on this board would forgo feline companionship, even knowing that eventual sad farewells are an inevitable part of the deal when we first take that adorable new cat home with us. I hope Sesame had a gentle passage over the bridge. She'll have fine company on the far side while she waits for you. Purrs for your loneliness. And, as I say to everyone, a new cat friend is one of the best sources of comfort for those mourning the passing of a long time four-footed companion. Not right away, no. But soon.
Another friend of mine had to say farewell to her own frail and elderly cat about a week ago. He had been having elevated thyroid trouble, but what took Edgar in the end was also kidney failure. He was nearly 18 years old, and always at the top of the feline pecking order, as the grand patriarch of her household. In some ways, his passing now resolved a difficult dilemma for my friend who is planning to move back to the States in March after 20 years in Ireland. She couldn't quite bear to leave Edgar behind after so many years of loving companionship, but was very concerned about the stress of a transatlantic journey on an elderly cat in failing health. I think that Edgar, being the intelligent cat he was, realized some major change was in the offing, even if he didn't understand all the details, and took matters into his own paws, resolving both her dilemma and his own.
So Sesame will be in the presence of other beloved cats who have recently made their final journey. It will be hard without her for a while, but it will ease.

I hope you have plenty of loving time left with Kitty FC. > Please give her a cuddle for me. I will. We have the woodburner lit and she is meatloafing on the sofa after having enjoyed her meal of senior cat food (chicken), eaten it all up, had a wee in the litterbox and a poo behind the woodburner and she is set for the night. I have to poke a stick under the woodburner daily to get her offerings out - they burn well! I'm not going to say anything to her about it, although she obviously remembers that she shouldn't as she looks round surreptiously first. If I see her looking round when she is near the fire, I try and look the other way. This is a concession to her great age, I wouldn't tolerate it from a young well cat.

I'm new to the group, but not to cats. As I sit here, Ketzl is running amok over some foolish thing he's gotten into his head, and I can't help but laugh. He found me at a shelter three years ago and has been a true buddy ever since. Saved me from myself a lot of times.
Kathryn, I have lost pets before and I know how it feels. They truly are gifts from the universe. Cherish the memories. When the healing has begun, you'll probably find a new friend. Or one will find you.

Welcome to RPCA! Any pictures of Ketzl to share?

PS - that's what my grandmother used to call me, Ketzla.

Sure I have pix. As I said to someone else who asked:
Do you want 1. A head shot 2. A tail shot 3. Full body, curled 4. Full body standing 5. Full body stretched out 6. Front-on. 7. Rear-on. 8. Rear-on tail down. 9. Rear-on, tail up (not for the squeamish.) etc.
Anyway, there are a few here:

In the "Wait - I've heard this one before" photo, he looks a bit like the Maneki Neko. Got any powerful people to impress? :)

That wonderful white blaze was the first thing I saw of him at the shelter. I was looking at the cat in the cage above Ketzl's and suddenly I became aware of a commotion below. I looked down and in the darkened room all I could see was the blaze moving back and forth. When I looked more closely I saw it was atop the head of an outstretched cat standing on his hind legs and pawing at the cage door. The message was clear: Hey you! I'm willing to give you a chance.
Twenty minutes later he was taking charge of the apartment.
As for Maneki Neko: Lucky cat indeed!

Just grieve, appreciate the posts but understand that you do not have to respond to any of them at this time. We will all understand. I know what it's like. I sobbed every day as soon as I woke up for 2 months when I lost one of my most beloved ones. It will eventually ease, trust me on this.
