Holly and Duffy usually follow behind me as I leave the bedroom every
morning. Partway there, Holly gets in front and "leads" me to the
kitchen -- literally! She will pause and look back to make sure I am
coming. Duffy trots happily behind. However, I have noticed for quite
awhile now that if Duffy doesn't come (either because he is still curled up
on my bed or for the evening meal when this routine obviously doesn't
occur), Holly will walk to the doorway between the kitchen and living room
and look for him. It's pretty obvious that's what she is doing. She only
does it when he is not present when I get out their bowls. She will stand
and look for a few seconds and occasionally will walk into the room and look
some more. However, she does not actually go and get him. After a few
seconds, she returns and starts eating -- so Duffy is on his own at that
time.
I find this charming, and it is such a big change from the days when I
thought I could never bring another cat into the home as long as I had
Holly. She used to attack any cat in my vicinity, and we even called her
"the black tornado." It's wonderful to see them together now.

That is so dear. It's a real testament to anyone who thinks they can
never get a second cat. I firmly believe that 99% of cats can be
integrated if it's done right. Bozzy was the orange tornado. You should
see him now. Just a big old love suck.

It is very sweet of Holly. Cats can surprise you so much. When I brought
in Miranda back when Frank and Nikki were still alive, I was most
worried about how Nikki would react. She had been known to be very
aggressive towards other cats, and she did hiss a lot at Mir the first
weeks. But they were on the road to becoming fast friends when Nikki
suddenly passed away. They were starting to play together, while Frank
mostly ignored Mir.
