If you don't think cats can dominate a household, we've had a gap in
our living room ever since we moved a comfy chair into the dining room
because the cats wanted it in there (it takes too long to explain).
This week we noticed a beautiful restored chair in a local upholstery
repair shop. It was on sale at a discount price, so we bought it and
set it in our living room. Two of our cats (who'll remain nameless)
strolled in, spotted the chair and made a beeline for it. You could
read on their furry faces what they were thinking: -  "Aha! A big new
scratching post!" We quickly covered it with a sheet and headed for
the stores to find a chair throw for our purchase. No luck. So we
bought one on the Internet. It'll be delivered on Friday - for about
the same amount we saved with the discount on the chair.  Cats!!!

And only other cat-people can understand. ;)

Are you sure they didn't think "big new bed"?

Oh, they did! When we returned from shopping for a chair cover, we
found Sophie curled up asleep on top of the temporary sheet over the
new chair. But no clawing...the sheet's too gooshy for that pursuit!

I have several very nice chairs; hand made of solid oak and covered
with very nice upholstery by a local furniture maker.  All three
chairs plus a cherry wood dining room set were given to me and dear
heart by the future MIL.  All are covered with bedroom sheets to keep
the cats from scratching.  It breaks ones heart to see all that
gorgeous furniture covered by tacky flower pattern sheets.  On the
positive side, the sheets are flannel and the cats LOVE to snuggle in
to them to get warm - especially now 'cause the heat-pump died last
week! :)jemifur

Mr. Pumpkin, my heart-of-my-heart cat, has discovered my right leg and knee
soft cast to be a wonderful scratching post.  I do not feel the same way
about this venture so it is a short lived exercise every time he tries!

Spicey has a scratching spot on my Wheelchair. Actually she seems very fond of
my chair. She sleeps on the seat the first part of the night (seats warm from
moi). This AM at 5:30 she was on the floor curld around my detachable footrest.
Sweet, but odd kitty.

They are, for the most part, all sweet but odd, some odd-er than others.  I
think that is what makes them so darn loveable!

The chair is where you sit some of your time. My cats will lay on the spot
where I sit on the couch.
