Christina Websell - 02 Jan 2007 19:25 GMT I've not read it for a while and when I went to sign in there's a message that says that the domain name expired on 22 December, is on hold and the owner needs to renew it asap.

Chris Havlicek - 02 Jan 2007 19:47 GMT Hi Christina -
Just saw a post from Suz dated today, and I was logged in to it right around Christmas. What URL did you use to log in?

It told me the domain name had expired. I was not able to sign in :-(

Catslaves is a Yahoo group, so there's no domain to expire:
http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/catslaves/
Since I get my messages through email, I don't often visit the Catslaves message board itself. HOWEVER, the "tech" part of the above URL is new to me. Anyone know when that first appeared?
(the old http://groups.yahoo.com/group/catslaves/ will still get you there too)

Catslaves is still active. I have seen several new messages. I suggest that you contact Yowie about this (or I will be glad to do it for you if you want me to).

I assume that Christina is talking about the catslaves WEBSITE that John and I made... the fact that nobody even knows it existed shows that we did the right thing in deleting it.

Hi Karen -
Um...my bad, actually. I made the assumption that Christina was trying to get to the group, not the web site. I knew about it, just had the group foremost in memory because I get the messages from it.

Yes, the Catslaves domain name is no more... we're trying to save for a house and the site didn't get nearly enough traffic to be worth maintaining a seperate domain. (not to mention that it was hideously out-of-date, and when I asked people for new stuff to put on it a few years ago, nobody gave me anything...) So we let it expire because we didn't think anyone would notice. I had a visitor counter for it and on a good week it got four visits!

Contact me off list; I'm quite happy to re-register and host Catslaves the web site.

Catslaves the web page was a lovly web page, with lot sof stuff about kitties and alink to the FAQ and to the yahoo group. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think it needed alot of maintanence. Sort of 'set and forget', with the occasional addition of another kitty picture or slave face.
Karen, Mark, please talk.

I accessed Catslaves via the website link. It would be a pity if the Catslaves website didn't show up on the web in case good catslaves would like to join in.

Hope that helps

I can access tthe above URL both at home and at work. Best I can suggest is to clear out the cookies and history files, try that link again, and press 'F5' if it still isn't working.
If it still appears down to Tweed whilst other people don't seem to be having any problem, then I don't know what else to suggest. What I can do is change the mail settings so that Tweed receives the catslaves messages via e-mail (either individually or as a daily digest) rather than having to read them off the web page. Otherwise, its a problem that is beyond my abilities to help with, sorry.

Is Tweed trying to access the Catslaves Yahoo group (the one with the mailing list) or the Catslaves website (which apparently has a defunct domain name, and people are trying to find a new home to resurrect it at)?

I've always accessed the Catslaves Yahoo group by searching on "catslaves" finding the webpage and using the link on there. I've found another way of accessing it now, but it's a bit longwinded.

If you haven't already, you should bookmark http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/catslaves/ so that it's in your "Favorites" or "Bookmarks" list.
You've probably noticed that others who have posted to this thread have been making a strong distinction between the Yahoo group named "Catslaves", and Karen and John's cat website, which is similarly called "catslaves". That's because they are independent entities.
Yahoo has a "groups" feature, which Vicky used in 2001 to create a chat and picture archive group called "Catslaves", named after the term we commonly use in RPCA. In 2003, Karen and John registered the "catslaves.org" domain, where they set up a website with cat related information. As with most websites, it had links to various other sites, one of which was the catslaves Yahoo group.
Karen and John noticed that traffic to catslaves.org had gotten very low, so they decided not to renew the "catslaves.org" domain. Keeping a domain name typically costs an annual fee. This had nothing to do with the Catslaves Yahoo group, which was why we were a bit confused about the problem you were reporting.

Hi Mary & Tweed (I hope)
Just to make sure we're talking about the same thing, we are all talking about the web interface for this here Catslaves yahoogroup, yes?
As far as I know, going to the URL
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/catslaves
still works. However I have been told that there's a new URL :
http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/catslaves/
That should also work.
That gets you into the front page. You'll need to sign in before you can see the messages and post messages. As far as I can see, Tweed is still a member... using 'uk_tweed' as her sign in.
Its working for me from both home and here at work. If its still not working, may I humby suggest that the cookies & history file get cleaned out before trying the above URLS again, and hitting 'F5' (refresh) if they are still causing errors.
If they still dont work after that, I"m not sure that there's a whole lot I can do to help. I can change people's settings so that they can receive the messages via e-mail rather than reading them off the web page (either individually or as 'daily digests') but I don't otherwise know what to do.
Sorry,
Vicky
