RPCA FAQ version 2.0

Thread rating: |
Mark Edwards - 01 Jan 2007 17:44 GMT I had some free time on my hands this weekend (big grin) - I've checked with Yowie, and have updated and rehomed the RPCA FAQ, and will take over maintenance of it:
http://professional-geek.com/personal/files/html/rpca/rpcafaq.htm
This is a frames version, but I think I have coded to make a noframes version reachable. If your browser doesn't allow frames, let me know.
Or you can just go directly to the contents page at:
http://professional-geek.com/personal/files/html/rpca/contents.htm
I've also added a stylesheet to pretty it up a bit.
Now for the fun part. Much of the content is the original content, and some of it may be stale or out of date. I will try to verify that the links in the FAQ are still good (and I'm pretty sure this could take me a while), including the homepages of people listed in it:
http://professional-geek.com/personal/files/html/rpca/more.htm#Homepages
If y'all could go through the FAQ and let me know of any changes that need to be made - especially in regards to email addresses and homepage URLs, I would greatly appreciate it.
Let me know what you think.
Hugs and Purrs, Mark Edwards

Could we add photo sites to the charter Mark ??

If you have additional URLs to free photo sites, I'll be glad to add them.

>Thanks Mark it is under my original display name >http://s119.photobucket.com/albums/o134/nomoreretail/ I have added photobuckets to the list of free photo sites, and your site to the homepages.
I have also removed the homepage listing for David Yehudah, as it has been deactivated after he passed away.
I have updated my own homepage, which link was ten years old (yikes!) and decidedly obsolete.
I have updated the cat name list, adding a few by specific request, and giving each alphabetic set its own bulleted block for (slightly) easier reading (I hope - grin).
I fixed a bug which I introduced, that made all of the contents page light blue on Internet Explorer, but not on Firefox.
Second-level headers are now highlighted, as are quotes, disclaimers and warnings.
Sadly, the free beer feature is delayed again, until a future version. Also, there is still no free lunch - we couldn't get it to interface properly with the veeblefetzer valve...
Oh yes - no more Angelfire-mandated advertisements or malware forced on the pages - I ripped those right out of the HTML, very first thing.

Yup, I'm glad someone else has taken it up. I just don't have the time any more. Still, as an archive of what RPCA looked 10 years ago (has it really been 10 years?) its not bad. Whilst there's many who are no longer posting, there are still many many people who are still here and posting. Says something about the place, don't you think?

I remember when you were putting it together, and I had already been part of this newsgroup for at least a couple of years, at that time. And I joined in late 1999. I think you created the FAQ maybe more like 5 years ago. Unless you started it years earlier, and were just continuing it 5 years ago. That was about when I first heard about you doing it, though!

So you were far closer with your 5 years than I was with my 10 :-).
It seems like a lifetime ago. We'd just moved into our house. We had no thoughts of getting married or having a kid. The computer (four or 5 computers ago) was in what is now Cary's room. Fluffy was still a teenager. Catslaves hadn't been invented yet, because the WTC hadn't been hit by terrorists yet. Dave Yehudah was alive and well, as was JEM and Renee Darvin. *sigh*.

As you probably remember, in the days after 9-11, RPCA members were desperately searching for other RPCA members, because alot of the news feeds were down, and people couldn't post.
However, e-mail was getting through more than news messages.
So, in an effort to keep in contact with RPCA people (and as a place to chat about stuff not relevant to RPCA and otherwise hang out) Catslaves the yahoo group was created.

I have updated the Bonsai Kittens section to note the changes.

I suppose Miranda's and Caliban's names could be added to the names. Should Frank be removed from the 2-cat list since there is only Sherry's Frank left?

Also, there is still no free lunch - we couldn't get it to [quoted text clipped - 6 lines] > Should Frank be removed from the 2-cat list since there is only Sherry's > Frank left? Its not my FAQ anymore, but I'd suggest putting an asterisk after cats who have gone to RB, rather than deleting their names altogether. After all, there was once an RPCA cat called Frank who lives on in memory and at the Bridge. Just because he is no longer in this realm doesn't mean he no longer has a name.

There are bits and peices I had intended to fix up. Like the "What not to post" and "Taboos" cover similar grounds but are in completely different sections, and I wanted to somehow put them together.
The stuff about the Daves is no longer relevant (but could be included for history's sake rather than anything else)
It probably needs a good overhaul and a bit of a re-write. Happy to help in dribs & drabs :-)

Could you add the name 'Poes' and 'Draic' to you list of cat-names?
'Poes' is Dutch for kitty, she was a stray I found her when I was young and responded to 'here, kitty, kitty' (but in dutch). She responded so well to 'kitty' I never changed her name. She is pure white and able to climb backwards out of trees. It's a long story, but since I live alone she's become an indoor cat and is now about 16 years old now, she has white fur.
The other cat is Draic and is also a stray I found. She's a beautiful tri-color, black, white, orange. With white mittens, a white tux and one red eye-patch. She's not a callico because the colors on some parts of her body mix. However, she has the callico demon gene *evil grin*, ask TED when she treated her. I'll leave it up to you whether you write her down as a callico or as a tri-color (black, white, orange cat). She'd be the first black, white, orange on the list unless I misinterpreted the term callico. (I thought in a callico the colors aren't supposed to mix colors, the colors black and orange mix on her back). Draic is very cute despite harming a vet

Christine K. - 04 Jan 2007 15:32 GMT Purrs for your efforts!
Laku's name already is on the list, as he's the older kitty of the household, but our younger master Nico's name is not there, yet. Nico would appreciate to be added too.

So I made a new Vino album which can be seen at: http://picasaweb.google.com/badwilson I think I might actually get rid of all my yahoo pics.
