At least it feels like it has only been 6 hours since Christmas. I made the
mistake (or maybe it was the outstanding choice) of giving DH a DVD copy of
the first season of the TV show 24. Somehow we missed that season. I have
lost track of anything I was supposed to do this week outside of work,
return from work and cook dinner, cuddle with a couple of cats while
watching the television. And we still have 6 hours to go!!
Christmas was almost a success this year. DH didn't like the Sirius Sports
Radio and boombox I bought him so that was returned. I bought it because he
was complaining of poor radio reception in his office. The other reason was
because his XBox 360 is on the blink and I didn't want to give him a
wireless steering wheel for an XBox that was in the repair shop.
The cats say they are almost all happy with Christmas. The eve of Christmas
eve I hauled all the litterboxes outside and soaked them in bleach so they
had totally clean, odorless litterboxes for awhile. Barnabus, Lacey and Sam
each got to be the first to use a clean box. Hobbes lost out this time.
Then disaster struck. I didn't decorate until Saturday and even then I only
brought in a wreath and some ropes of long leaf pine to adorne the mantle
and top of the bookcase. On the morning of Christmas Eve Sam began sneezing
and by the late afternoon his sneezing turned into difficulty breathing.
The only thing added to the house was the greenery so I gathered everything
up and threw it out of the house. He's still sneezing some but not as badly
as he was. He goes in for rabies shots tomorrow so I'll have him checked
out well. His rate of breathing is slow and even so I'm not too concerned
but he is getting Albuterol whenever he has a sneezing attack.
The cats were very pleased with their new scratching post which is taller
than the old scratching post and has both carpet and sisal rope, something
for everyone. They also got a new laser light, a new lap blanket for the
lap cats, several toys and some treats. Mostly they had us at home for 6
days.
DH gave to me three cat fan pulls - a black cat, a tabby and a calico
(Barnabus, Hobbes and Lacey), a cat door mat and a gas smoker. He gave me a
smoker - a toy I really wanted - and I haven't built it yet! Help! I'm 24
addicted...someone recommend intervention!

PS: Barnabus wants to tell Miranda that her letter to him was simply lovely
as well as tastey. He has eaten half of it all ready and will finish it in
the next few days. He must know it is from Miranda, its the only paper he's
eaten all week and usually he eats a newspaper, paperback book, christmas
cards and bills. Of couse he doesn't actually eat it, he rips it apart,
gives it a thorough taste test then spits it out. I have litle snowflakes
of Miranda's letter all over my livingroom floor. That's all right though,
they match the very short pieces of blue yarn that he leaves all over the
house in his effort to gut a blue yarn mouse I had given him a few weeks
ago. <sigh>

LOL! How sweet - I think...
So sorry to hear about Sam's reaction to the greenery. I remember once,
when Nikki was still with me, I bought a different kind of cat litter
than usual, because the store didn't have my usual brand. I checked that
the bag said 'no perfume', but when I poured it into the box, it stank
to high heaven of some synthetic odour. Poor Nikki got a terrible
coughing attack from it, though she wasn't even in the same room. I put
Nikki out on the balcony while I emptied the litter back in the bag. She
was OK after I got rid of the litter.

It is amazing how sensitive they are and of course with asthma Sam is even
more sensative. He had to go in for a rabies shot today and annual check
up. The vet told me that they are seeing a lot of this type of reaction
right now and she spoke with an allergist who told her the increase is due
to people bringing boxes stored in attics and basements that are dusty and
moldy. I left all dusty boxes in the garage but I'm sure I stirred up dust
when I was getting everything out of the attic. But because he didn't react
until I brought the greenery in I suspect that is the cause.

Poor little guy! :( His respiratory system is so sensitive. I guess
you'll have to have synthetic decorations in future Christmases.

I'm more worried about what's going to happen when you're finished
watching this DVD... you'll go into withdrawal!

For the pull-chains on ceiling fans.

The problem with watching it on television is it takes 6 months plus to see
the series, that's why I prefer to watch on DVD. Also over here 24 is now
only on pay channels which I don't subscribe to.

We will definately have artificial greenery in the future. I learn something
new every day, it seems.

A ceramic decoration that attaches to the chain on the ceiling fan.

You're probably right. I only watch a few television shows but 24 is one
that I really enjoy. I refuse to buy the other seasons which we watched at
the time they were aired. I'd never get anything done!

Ah! I had no idea how to parse that... "cat fan pull".. cat-fan pull?
What's a cat fan? :) LOL. The bottom line was that I didn't know what
a "fan pull" was. I don't have ceiling fans, so no wonder! The fans I
use have buttons or knobs to turn them on.

We can learn something every day here, can't we? I didn't know what a
fan pull was either and I DO have more than one of them in my house.

If you've got addicted after the first season there are 4 more already out
on DVD and season 6 starts in January. I've nearly finished watching S5 and
I think it's the best so far.

We watched all of the other seasons at the time they aired, somehow we
missed the first season. DH says he's going to wait this year until the DVD
comes out because it is so much nicer to watch without the commercials - and
the week long wait. I doubt I'll buy the other years since we've seen them.
I also doubt we'll wait until the DVD comes out on season 6, we'll get
caught up in it again as usual.

I'll be waiting for season 6 on DVD too, which going by the last three is
likely to be 12/05/2007. I'll watch the last two episodes of season five
tomorrow

Great idea. I think we'd like 24 if we had it on DVD. Alias would be good
that way too. We didn't do well with keeping track of the story line when
it would miss several weeks.
But there really is nothing on TV right now so it would be a great time to
get some of those shows.

I can only really watch one TV channel until I find a way to fix my roof
antenna, and then I should be able to get about 4 channels. Still not much,
but in the meantime I've been watching the old series Dallas on DVD. I
missed the first few seasons altogether and missed many of the older
episodes.
These aren't available to rent locally so I've been buying the sets in
sequence on ebay. I wait for a good deal then "snipe" the auction at the
last moment. A good enough deal is getting the set inclusive of shipping for
the same price I can get when I resell it on Amazon.com, which means I just
"rented" it for free!

I watched the last three seasons of Alias on DVD, mainly because it was
never broadcast at a consistent time here in the UK. I don't think season 5
has even been on here yet.
