For Kayla. But really for the masters as well. She has developed a bald
spot above her left eye the past week about the size of a penny. We see the
vet at 10 tomorrow. Kayla and I hope it is nothing serious. Jake and Molly
just hope it's nothing contageous.

Oh no! Poor Kayla. Is it scaly? Frank had a bald spot over his eye that
turned out to be ringworm. I had been at the shelter a lot, and TED
said I likely brought the spores home on my clothes.
Hope it's just nothing. How does Kayla react to the vet? (I bet she'll
enjoy the ride.)

Purrs and cautious headbutts for the d*g pet. Sam is afraid of d*gs when
they bark on the television. I've told him Kayla is a felinedog. He's a
little confused but willing to send his purrs.

Please reassure Sam that Kayla does not bark, so she is not a scary dog.
When we got Kayla I asked the breeder for advice on how to prevent barking
problems as we had a big problem with our last two dogs. She said "My dogs
don't bark". She is right. Kayla can bark and has once or twice, but
normally she just doesn't.

Well the bad news is Kayla has demodectic mange. But the good news is Kayla
has demodectic mange and it isn't contageous so the cats can't catch it.
All she has at this point is a small spot above her eye and we will be
treating that. This can be mild and easy to treat or it can be a major hard
to treat condition, especially in collie type dogs. So we could use some
extra strong purrs that we get this under control quickly.
Demodectic mange is a type of mite that the dog gets from its mother shortly
after birth. And evidently this is the only time it can be transmitted.
Evidently it is very common for a dog to carry this mite, but some are more
prone to have skin lesions from it than others. And some are more prone to
severe and widespread skin lesions.

Well, as long as the cats are safe, everything is alright. ;) Nobbut,
many purrs that you can nip this in the bud.

She is accepting even late purrs. She is unaware of the mange, but really
truly hates the treatment. Her latest consolation prize is I give Jake his
pills right before I put on her salve. They both feel better that the other
one is unhappy.
Last night Jake and Kayla were actually and definitely playing together. I
bought a hassock at IKEA for in front of the fireplace. Jake claimed it as
his right away. Kayla for some reason has never jumped up on it. I had
pushed it out in the middle of the floor last night and Jake was meatloafing
as usual. Kayla came in from outside and after playing catch with me for a
while she put her ball up by Jake. He pushed it off, she put it back. She
sniffed, he swatted (no claws out). He knocked the ball off again and she
put it back then grabbed it and moved it out of his reach when he started
push it back off. This kept up for a good five minutes.
This could be the start of something great.
