I love these stories. But this one didn't say whether the cat survived.

I think we can assume the cat survived. I expect they would have
reported it if the cat had "sacrificed" itself for the family. I hope
they treasure this puss for the rest of its life.

The fire was very contained so one would assume the cat was fine.
