Christmas late for us

We had to push our holiday down the calendar a bit. Louie got an allergic
reaction of pure evil from some Chinese food my boss provided for the holiday
party, which neither of us knew had shrimp. Unlike our seafood-loving cats
(four of them anyway: Sabrina is allergic to seafood but it just gives her
itchies) Louie can't handle it. We had to take him to the doctor. He got some
good anithistamines and he's breathing now, but our Christmas was kind of put
into a temporary toilet. At least we managed to get our cards out. Late, d-mn
me. But I look on the bright side. The Eastern Orthodox will have theirs in
January, so maybe it's not so bad. We will toast the new year sometime early
February. But isn't that Chinese new year anyway?

Blessed be,
Baha
Just glad that my husband can inhale

Chinese New Year is on February 18.

Good! Louie's half Chinese. We can toast twice!

Blessed be,
Baha

I'm glad your husband is okay!  That must have been scary.  Yikes!

Oh dear Baha, I'm so sorry! That is very scary. I hope you and louie are
feeling better now, and have a good, if belated Christmas.

That must have been really scary!  I'm glad he's okay, now.

I should think so! That must have been terrifying. I'm glad that he's
OK. Did either of you realize how severe his allergy was? I know that
allergies can get progressively worse, the more exposures you get to
the allergen. It sounds like he came close to anaphylaxis, if it wasn't
actually that. Very dangerous. I guess you'll both have to be a lot
more careful about foods you accept from people who don't know about
Louie's allergy.

Is your religious background Eastern Orthodox?

He came very close to anaphylaxis, but we caught it in time. And as if that
weren't bad enough, when he digests the offending seafood it tears his
stomach up; he'll be in "the reading room" so long he'll be easily able to
polish off War And Peace. I think it must be progressivly getting worse; last
time this happened, maybe three or four years ago, the whole nasty business
lasted a few hours, not a few days, and we didn't have to go to the ER. We
knew he was allergic, but I didn't know the big thing of fried rice had
shrimp in it. We had four big boxes of stuff we were going through over the
weekend, and hadn't touched the fried rice until late Monday night and
Tuesday morning. When it was served at my company's party I didn't take any
because I was going to another function after work, where they were serving
dinner; I didn't want to make a pig of myself. I feel quite the jack@$$ right
now, to be honest; I knew there were spring rolls with shrimp on the menu, so
why shouldn't it have occurred to me that other things might have the
troublesome little devils? Louie's okay though--thank God--just wiped out
from the round of antihistamines he was prescribed.

As to religion, Louie is a traditional-practicing Sikh, and I practice what
can best be called a Sikh-Nordic syncresis; the values of Sikhism and those
of what some call Odinism overlap quite a bit, and I found in recent times
that I need a different structure of worship than my husband. I just really,
really like to study other religions and practices!

Blessed be,
Baha

Shrimp is a common ingredient in fried rice, as well as lots of other
Chinese food. So do be careful.

I'm so sorry to hear that. What a relief Louie is feeling better.
Lots of purrs,
Polonca and Soncek
