'Natural balance' catfood was a huge hit...

Karen AKA Kajikit - 27 Dec 2006 23:14 GMT It was on sale before Christmas so I bought the girls three small cans of it for their stocking. I gave them 'chicken liver pate' yesterday and 'seafood' today, and both were scarfed down in double quick time.
:) Judging by their reactions to it, it's Gourmet - they liked it even better than the fresh turkey and ham they got on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day!
Has anyone used this canned food on a regular basis? They liked it so much that I'm thinking of buying them more instead of their Science Diet. These cans seem to have less byproducts and fillers in them, and more actual meat, but they're priced accordingly...

They don't like any pate type catfood. Your kitties eat dry Science Diet, right? Some canned food would probably be good for them. I feed both dry & canned.
Have you tried the new Sheba in the tiny little 3-oz round tins? O. My. Gosh. I picked up 4 for Christmas. They *scarfed* it. Unfortunately for them I'm not starting them on another habit--it's $1.19 a can. I doubt it's healthy anyway--they liked it too much!
The chicken was the whitest, purest-looking, best smelling cat food I've ever seen.

I gave them 'chicken liver pate' yesterday [quoted text clipped - 20 lines] >The chicken was the whitest, purest-looking, best smelling cat food >I've ever seen. The girls all refuse to eat canned food if it's in chunks - they much prefer the pate ones (If you give them the stuff in gravy they lap up the gravy and leave the chunks sitting in the bowl!) They have a feeder full of science diet kibble to eat whenever they want, and they get a small serve of canned food at dinner time. (funnily enough, when they were younger we tried them on science diet canned food and they refused to touch it - but once they saw Tessie scarfing it down they decided that it must be edible after all, and now they all think it's Good Stuff!) They usually get SD indoor or hairball control food but they'll apparantly eat almost anything in a can as long as it's mushy.

Neither Cali or Smokey like the chunks (grilled), they eat the gravy and leave the chunks. Cleo will pretty much eat anything, except her expensive damned compounded pills. (Did they not test this stuff on cats?)
The girls all loved the preformed Turkey Product (Butterball) though. Cali was looking for seconds and Cleo was mooching at the table, which is normally a Smokey trick.

(Did they not test this stuff on cats?) I have wondered if they actually tested the food out on cats for YEARS! What's with those "fresher", Whiska, pounch things? I have never had a cat like those and dang, they're expensive! They must be selling, because the darn things are still out there on the market, but, shoots, I've tested it on 6 cats now and they all turn their noses up. Oh, oh, oh......... Fancy Feast, Cod, Sole & Shrimp (I think)......the makers try to make it look like a really delicious blend of chunky seafood with real tiny shrimp and stuff. You'd think a cat would go nuts, but I've never had a cat eat it, ever. Yet, my cats like shrimp and fish. Go figure.

Our cats actually like the 'Cod Sole and Shrimp'. But I don't think they like Shrimp. I guess you don't get too many Prawns in a 49¢ can. :-)

Thank goodness that they all eat the chunky *and* the same flavor!

Unfortunately for [quoted text clipped - 3 lines] > The chicken was the whitest, purest-looking, best smelling cat food > I've ever seen. My niece told me that the chicken Sheba had actual bits of chicken in it, so I decided to try if Miranda would eat it. I bought the cats one tin each for Yule (at 1.30 euros a can!). I thought maybe I'd finally found a cat food she would eat, instead of just fresh meat.
Haha! <frustrated/hysterical laughter> She did sniff it longer than any other food (usually she just walks away if I put cat food in front of her), but then she walked away. I didn't give up. I didn't give her any other food, and offered her the Sheba a few more times, when she asked for food. But every time I offered her the bowl, she didn't even sniff it any more, she just walked away when she saw what was in the bowl. So in the end, Caliban got two bowls of very expensive cat food, and Miranda got her fresh beef.

Karen - 28 Dec 2006 15:33 GMT Seriously, Miranda is probably way better off on the raw diet she is getting with supplements. If I ever got a baby again, I think I would try to go raw.

It's alright here in town, but out on the island it's sometimes a bit difficult to get her fresh meat every day. It all depends on the weather and whether we can take the boat into one of the nearby villages (where there are very small shops with not much in the way of fresh mat) or we can make the trip to a larger community on the mainland, with better stocked shops. It would be nice to have at least a few tins of something she will eat in the cupboard for emergencies.
I wish Miranda had had at least one summer on the island with Nikki. I'm confident that Nikki would have shown Mir what to do with voles, and then she could have supplied her own fresh meat. Mir knows how to hunt and she's killed a few voles, but she doesn't realise you can eat them. She needs someone to show her. I'm not going to volunteer. ;o)

Smokey was pretty clueless about mice, before seeing Cali in action. It's really something to watch them working as a team to heard the mouse. Although Smokey's not big on the eating part. She just steals the trophy to lay at your feet, after Cali has done all the work. We haven't had any mice since Cleo arrived, but I had a chance to see her in action when she was still outside. The mouse was caught and eaten in under two minutes. It wasn't a game for her, it was survival.

He said "Umm. I want some of what they're having."

blkcatgal - 28 Dec 2006 04:39 GMT My cat eats the Natural Balance venison and peas. It's a limited ingredient food design for cats that have food allergies (which my cat apparently does). He loves it. In fact, I feed it to my non-allergic cat too and he loves it.

Karen - 28 Dec 2006 15:30 GMT If you fed them canned and no dry I bet Silver and Scout would slim down. I worry a bit about them. I hear it is quite a decent food.
