I have missed you guys dreadfully.  A few people got ahold of my work e-mail
address and have kept me posted of many of the happenings on the group.
Even though I haven't posted I have thought of all of you and sent purrs and
prayers for everyone.

We lost Paint Job last year.  She was the one that loved the string toss.  I
just couldn't keep her in the house and she had to own the whole
neighborhood.  We also couldn't keep a collar on her so the local feral pets
organization spayed her 3 times.  You would think they'd notice the scars
and the clipped ear, but noooo..... Then one day she didn't come back.  We
looked for her and put up posters and checked at the pound and the humane
society but no luck.  So she is awol.

However I do still have my other fur turkeys.  Shinobu will be 21 in March.
Dorrie will be 18 in March.  Lucy Fur was just 9 last October and Spooky
(you remember when I got him?) was 6 lastAugust.  I know, I can't believe it
either.

I have the same job I got 3 1/2 years ago and have gotten a couple of
promotions.  I bought a house 18 months ago.  Alex is 18 now and is working
part time for a friend of mine while he finishes school.  The ex still crops
up from time to time to irritate me, but disappeared last September when I
got an order of protection.  There are a couple of guys I'm seeing now and
one has the potential of being something serious.  I spend my time working
on the house (it needed work when I bought it) and working at work.  I'm
planning some major rennovation this winter and spring.

Needless to say, I'm still in Phoenix and thrilled to bits  to be able to
get back on line again.

How are you all doing?

Hazel!!!!  It's good to hear from you.  I've wondered several times
how you were.  Sounds like things are going well and we are very glad
to hear it!

We are all still here.  Eric and I finally got engaged this summer.
We'll probably just go downtown to the JP sometime when the urge
strikes us.  I'm too damn old for the stress and expense of a wedding!
But I wanted that ring and boy, did I get one!!!

All three kitties are still here.  Tiger is 18 and in failing health.
Her kidneys are deteriorating and she has some arthritis in her hind
legs.  We're treating the CRF as well as the arthritis, even though
the arthritis meds don't help her kidneys any.  We could probably
prolong her life if we didn't treat the arthritis, but she would be in
pain and we don't want that.  So we'll just do the best we can...  She
seems happy enough though.  Eating, bitching when there isn't a warm
lap available, etc....<grin>.  Casper (around 9 we think) is still the
'fraidy cat and Lucy's (12) allergies have improved markedly since we
moved into our house (hard wood floors, no carpeting).  In fact, my
allergies have improved as well.

Anyhow, we're all fine and are very glad you are, too!

Hi Hazel:

I'm sorry about Paint Job and so pleased to hear that Shinobu, Dorrie, Lucy
Fur, and Spooky are with you and doing well.  21 is pretty impressive!   ...
and Alex is all grown up!

Since you've been on hiatus, we've lost Otis 3 times - once after we moved
(gone 4 days), another time when he broke out of a cattery (gone 12 days),
and another when he jumped into a neighbour's basement after a flood and
couldn't get back out the basement window (2 days).  He's still marvelously
ornery and affectionate and will be 11 this January.  Chester is still
mellow and sweet and gentlemanly.

I am expecting again in 6 weeks - my kids will be almost 9 and 6 1/2 when
this one arrives.

So glad to have you back and hope you plan to stick around for a while!

Take care,

Susan M

OMG, Alex is 18?  I still think of him as in Jr High school.  Amazing how
they grow up so fast.  Sorry to read about Paint Job being AWOL, though nice
to read that you still are owned by Shinobu, Dorri, Lucy Fur, and Spooky.

I'm not surprised by the ex.  Still think of him when cleaning litter boxes.
He still deserves a really stinky present from the masters.

Am glad that you have your life back, even though it's not the same as
before.  Also glad to read about your promotions both personal and
professional.  Hope that all continues to work out for you, Alex, and your
owners.  Congrats on the house.  I'm just learning what a pain it is to
upkeep them at times.

forgot how well you all knew him.

Yup a bunch of old kitties with the hearts of hoolikittens.

What's so pathetic is that he has so totally burned his brain up from the
drugs that he'll never be the same person again.  He doesn't understand it
when he can't land the jobs he used to be able to do.  He's living in a
half-way house or is homeless--I'm not sure which--and somehow he thinks
it's all someone else's fault.  It's hard to see that happen to someone you
once loved.  But I forgot about the litter box gifts.  LOL.  Thanks for the
reminder.

Where in Phoenix?  I just moved to Phoenix from Los Angeles,
and don't know anybody here, yet.  Also having trouble
finding my way around - Greater L. A. may have a larger
population, but I think Phoenix probably covers a lot more
ground!  (I live near 7th Street and Bell Road.)

I'm at 35th ave and Deer Valley--just down the 101.  E-mail me and maybe we
can hook up.  Phoenix is a very easy city to navigate once you know the
pattern.

hey Haz,
good to "see" you on rpca again!
And of course hear you're doing well. But Alex 18? and Spooky 6? they must
grow fast around there ...
I am mostly keeping an eye on rpca from a distance so to speak, don't post
but try to keep up with major events - such as you posting ... RL just takes
too much time and energy and working by the 'puter just makes me want to
stay away from it when I'm not.
Thea & Bono are both 9 this winter but basically still the same silly
aby-monkeys as always and healthy.
Later ...

Wow! Alex 18? Spooky 6? My goodness time flies!

Don't know when you last heard from us, but we're still here. You may not
know, but I think you do, that Joel & I got married in 2003 and had our
Yowlet in 2004. Said Yowlet is now 2 years, 8 months old, and running us
thoroughly ragged, although of course he is also a sheer delight when he's
not driving us nuts.

Fluffy is still a dog with very little brains. Shmoggleberry is alive and
kicking, although noticably a *senior* cat now, but, despite his age (about
16 we reckon) he can still pull a classic b*st*rd c*t trick every so often.

Otherwise, its pretty much same old, same old.

Gratz on the house, and *wonderful* to see you again.

Great to see you again as well.  Oh and BTW I've become a major Terry
Pratchett fan.  I think I have all of his books now.  Or nearly all.  I
think it's the fault of this newsgroup.  I would have never heard of him if
it wasn't for you guys.

Hi Pam!  So good to have you back here, I have often wondered about you.
I'm glad to hear you're doing well and am looking forward to hearing
more about your life.
I have mostly been lurking lately, been really busy.  Dennis and Vino
and I have been living in Australia for 9 months already.  The move went
really smoothly but Vino got stressed in his 1 month of quarantine and
came down with a blockage and was at the vet for 5 days.  But he is all
better now and loving the fully fenced back yard.
I have been working at a winery, it's super convenient because I work 3
days a week when Dennis is home and 5 days a week when he's gone.
We are about to start building our house, looks like we may break ground
in late January, keeping fingers x'ed to get it all done before next
xmas.
Many hugs,

Yes, I do have house plans.  I am going to make an online album
chronicling the whole building process, starting out with a copy of the
plans.  But I have not had a chance to get around to setting anything
up.  I will post a link as soon as I've got something though!

Hey, I have missed your style of posting and all the fun we used to
have. Of course RL has changed all of us over the years. But the
community spirit keeps us together.

Shinobu is a Grande Dame! And Dorrie not far behind. That is so sad
about Paint Job. I still love the name Lucy Fur. I once had a cat
named Lucifer--for good reason! LOL! I still think of Spooky as a
kitten. My, how kids grow up--especially Alex.

Update here: Shebais 15 1/2, and diabetic; Djoser is 15 and would
rather snuggle in a blanket than go outside; That rascal, my beloved
Amber, passed away of a massive e-coli infection 2 years ago. But a
year before that, Robin, the Lovebug, showed up, just neutered, as a
leggy teenage Russian Blue mix. He is now 4 and bigger than all the
other cats, and is the boss. And still a lovebug.

I am now retired and on Disability, and diabetic. Sheba now shares my
insulin and needles that the insurance pays for. Sh! Don't tell! I
gotta save a few bucks somehow. ;-)

Right now we are still buried in tons of snow drifts and expecting
another blizzard tomorrow night. GAH! We just got the car dug out
today! But this time we are going to park it on the road.

That's an update in a nutshell. I didn't know what you knew or didn't.
It is so good to have you back.

Hey Hazle!

Has it really been 4 years since you came to visit the East Coast? Good
to hear you are back on your feet after that rough patch, and that your
clan is doing well.

Lessee, I've finished law school and passed the Bar. I think you know I
had a daughter back in '03, had a second one this past April.

Pippin and Mithu are still around. We sent Yogi (Spooky's contemporary)
up to my in-laws in New Jersey about 2 years ago, where he has grown to
the size of a small horse, they say, has come out of his shell (he used
to hide under the covers all day at the sound of the doorbell), and has
them doing his bidding. Fizzgig went to the RB suddenly just before
Thanksgiving '05.

Welcome back!

I sure loved your kitties.  They had some of the most beautiful coats I have
ever seen on cats.  I really loved the one who kept trying to get into my
suitcase.  Was that Mithu?  I remember Yogi--what little I saw of him and
I'm glad he's doing well.  So very sorry about Fizz.

OK, now I have more time for a proper update. I don't know if you knew
this (I seem to remember you popping in at the end of last year), but I
had to send both Frank and Nikki on their last journeys in 2005. Nikki
was almost 17, and Frank had just turned 18 when I had to say goodbye to
them respectively. Well, before that, I had already acquired a kitten, a
Russian Blue girl whom I named Miranda. After Nikki died, I had to get
Miranda a young playmate, so that she would leave poor old Frank alone,
and I got a boykitten from a group that rescues cats in Estonia. He is a
brown tabby and white, and his name is Caliban. I think I've moved a
couple of times since you were last here. Now I live in a flat with a
small attached garden or patio, and I had an enclosure built there for
the cats.

Time does fly. Spooky 6 years old already? My my. And Alex a grown man
(almost). Glad to hear you are all getting back on your feet. And so
glad to hear Shinobu is still going strong. What an impressive age!

Yes I knew this.  I think I sent you an e-mail at the time.  The lovely
Paulette sent me the posts when they both went to the bridge.  I'm so sorry,
Marina.  I think of Frank and Nikki every time I read Mutts.

Well, before that, I had already acquired a kitten, a

It sounds lovely and I'm so pleased for you.

Somedays I think Shinobu looks her age and other days she doesn't.  Kind of
like the rest of us, no?  Actually Alex is arguing with me on Spooky's age.
He thinks Spooky is 7.  Now I can't remember and will probably have to call
the vet and ask her when we first brought him in.  He's huge--I think he
weighs 18 lbs. and loves to be spanked.  He is also crazy about pork rinds
and junk food.  We keep him away from the junk food because it gets him
sick.

I'm glad to see you and Lena are still around.

And me too, Hazel, I am also still around.

Actually your Spooky is born in 2001. This is how you told us about him:
On Wed night my son and I went to the Humane
>Society and adopted a new baby kitty.
>
>He is a black furry little guy about 3 months old.  His feet are too big
for
>his little body and his legs don't seem to work properly.  He goes
>everywhere at a dead run.  He is absolutely fearless.  In his excitement
to
>follow Dorrie, he lept over the last 5 steps on the staircase and landed
>flat on his face.
[quoted text clipped - 4 lines]
>gotten himself locked in a closet
>tried to poison himself (vet said it wasn't poisonous and the frothy
mouth
>would go away shortly)
>Killed three of my plants

That was 24 Nov 2001. And I remember how I saw the little kitten on your
web cam.
And his ambition was to grow up to be just like uncle Hugo Katt.

You know that Hugo Katt left for the RB before Christmas last year.

I do not have any new cat. I am catsitting a black called Nisse right
now.

I have really missed you very, very much Hazel. I hope you will stay with
us now.

This is great news too!  Hi Elisabet!  I have missed you as well.

Thank you for looking up that old post and I am so relieved that Spooky
isn't as old as I thought.  Time is slipping away so quickly it is nice to
know it's not moving THAT fast.  So Spooky is 5.  He did so admire his uncle
Hugo and was very sad when  uncle Hugo went to the Bridge.

I'm like a bad penny, I keep turning up.  Hopefully I will be able stick
around for a long time.

Glad you are back and that life is calmer. Life pretty much the same here.
My barekitten recently reached adulthood, celebrating his 18th birthday in
October. Still ruled by three felines, Waffles, Francis & Marble, now all
senior cats. Speaking of whom, Waffles has just brought in a nice fat vole
from the garden (dead, so it's been sacrificed at the altar of Bast...). The
barekitten is studying for exams with a view to going to university to do a
degree in environmental sciences, specialising, he hopes, with a lot of
tectonics, volcanoes & climate change stuff. He's also done well in his
cycling in his final year as a junior, setting a new junior club record,
winning various events, setting new personal best times and coming second in
a national series of events. As a result of this final one, he gets an award
at Champions' Night in January. Vernon is still the same, but has recently
changed company (a good thing). I'm stil me, still overweight, still here
but off the bike for a while as I've got an achilles tendon problem that
just doesn't go away. Bah!

Helen you must be so proud of your barekitten and your furfamily.  I'm so
glad that you still have your kitties and that Waffles is still keeping up
her fearsome reputation as the vole eliminator.

I'm so happy things are looking so awesome for you! You deserve only the
best after all the crap you went through.

> How are you all doing?

Same old, same old. Though we've added two to our crew since you last
posted (I think?). Fez and Rufous make it seven! :)

Thank you.

One cat just leads to another.  I think we should just make a crazy
catpeople pact that we'll all grow old and adopt cats and have people wonder
about us.  I think I have a cardigan in my closet and an old housedress for
when I get to that stage.

Good to see you Victor.  You are one of the many I had really hoped I'd see
again in this group.
