A gift for Kenzie?

Every Christmas I am faced with the same problem: trying to think of a
gift for Kenzie. Aside from food, I've never come up with a good idea.

Kenzie doesn't play with toys. I think she never ad the opportunity to
learn to play, so toys seem meaningless to her.

I've bought dangling toys on sticks, but she will only bat at them for a
minute or two. (Usually, she rolls on her back, so she doesn't have to
work so hard).

I remember my beloved RB kitty Lucky would  pull the Cat Dancer off the
table and bring it to me to play with her. (Sigh...)

She will bat at the laser spot for a minute or two, but then loses
interest.

I have a friend who used to grow fresh catnip. I called it 'kitty
crack', as my two RB kitties went absolutely nuts over it.

Kenzie is one of those cats who don't respond to catnip at all.

Kenzie *loves* potato chips, and sardines, and so I have a tin of
sardines, and some potato chips for her for Christmas. She never gets as
much food as she think she should have (She's very small boned, and is
enough overweight that TED said I should further reduce her food, much
to Kenzie's dismay).

So getting both of her favorite treats on one day (plus her regular
food) is something that only happens on Christmas. I just wish I could
come up with something 'better'.

So, what are you giving your kitties for Christmas?

I wouldn't worry abuot anything "better". I think that to a cat, food
is just about the best present they could get. Especially something
special like sardines and potato chips - and especially if she's on a
diet, normally!

What a nice post.
I'm getting Spock and Persephone a tin of fancy feast turkey each
(they are tiny tins).  I've never fed them fancy feast before, so I'll
be interested to see what they think of it.

Fox (the dog) has already got his present - three breakfasts worth of
chicken wings; his favourite thing in the world (aside from a comfy
bed to snooze in 22 hours each day!).

I hope you have better luck than I have had!  I used to buy
individual sized tins of a VERY expensive gourmet food for
mine for their Christmas dinner.  Invariably, they'd sniff
at it and either turn up their little noses or make
"burying" motions!  Leaving it available for the rest of the
day didn't change their minds about it, either.  (So the
garbage disposer ate it, instead - at around sixty-five
cents a container!)

Now they get their usual food, plus a tidbit or two of the
turkey or prime rib the people are having (they usually
ignore that, too).  Instead of buying new toys, I just
resurrect some that have been languishing in their toy box
unplayed-with for a year or so.  (This year, I may rekindle
interest by spraying the toys with a non-aerosol catnip
spray I found at PetSmart.)

After all, our PETS don't know it's any different from an
ordinary day, it's just us humans who want to include them
in our family festivities!

We bought our furrbabies a 4 tier cat tree for christmas. Actually we already
set it up for them, and they are having a riot on it.

Maybe she would like a nice soft blankie to lay on all her own.

If the weather holds up, we will be putting Kayla out in the back yard.
Jake and Molly said that is all they want.

Mine got their Christmas yesterday (solstice) - all they could eat shrimpies
for supper, and a new bed. It's a d*g bed, large enough for three cats at
one time, and very squishy/comfy. I put it right in front of the gas log
fireplace. So far only two have used it at one time (Tommy and Eli).

The problem is Baby Eyes hasn't benefitted from Christmas. She won't eat
ANYTHING but dry kibble, and hasn't even shown any curiousity about the bed.
She loves toys but there are already enough cat toys here to fill a bushel
basket, so I don't know what to do for her. I did give her a thorough
brushing, which she didn't need but she really loves being brushed. In fact
I brushed all the longhaired kitties.

Santa is bringing TuTu a package of "Greenies"  and a new  toy rat on a
string (which she will probably ignore.   She doesn't play much any more
either.  Her favorite occupation is sitting in my lap and sending me
thought waves  about food.  MLB

This year for Yule Solstice, the Pletsch-Blacquiere Clowder got a laser
pointer that does 5 designs (dot, mouse, star, happy face and
butterfly).  Last year they got a ball in a "track" that goes around.

Our furballs got an extension for their kittyplayhouse, so now there's
room for all three of them to sit on it at once... we gave that to
them a month ago because we were too impatient to see if they'd like
it! (they adore it...) Their christmas stocking has three small cans
of all-natural gourmet catfood for them to eat (I hope they agree to
eat it because it costs twice as much as their science diet!), a
container of catnip bubbles, and some more mouseys... I looked at
getting them one of the fancy stockings of toys, but they really don't
need that much stuff - I got them one last christmas and while they
adored the jingleballs and mousey, they ignored most of the other toys
in the bag and I ended up donating them to the cat shelter!

You've inspired me to rebuild our cat condo. Now that it's been in use for a
few months I can see several ways to improve it, and they certainly deserve
the best I can do.
