Jill I don't want to sound mercenary but if that costume jewelry is that
old, don't throw it out, have it appraised, there is a big market for some
of that stuff. Lee, who doesn't want to sound greedy but hates to throw
good money away also!!!

Sadly, my mother gave me her costume jewelry and with the exception of a few
pieces I threw most of it away when I was in my early 20's. Of course years
later I'm cringing! No way am I throwing this stuff away and I'm not
selling it, either. It's John's connection to his mother and while her
taste wasn't always the greatest (LOL) some of this stuff is quite pretty!
Next time he goes back he's bringing her hat collection (ooooh!) and vintage
dresses.
But really, the cat paintings are the greatest. It's not like I go around
naming animals in oil paintings but I now have Brandy and Boxy and Pinkie
(who is actually green and in a photograph of a painting he did). <G>

it is wonderful that you love the paintings, and very astute that he knew
you would, Lee

And some of those crystals might be Swarsky crystals, which are
valuable. I have some I got at an estate sale. Lovely. And in the old
days gold was much cheaper than now and you often found 10K and 14K
jewelry with semi-precious stones.

Do you ever watch Antique Roadshow? Some of that old jewelry may be
valuable. MLB

One of my favourite shows! But I'm (despite what some folks may think I
should do) not going to sell this jewelry. I made the mistake of tossing
out the rhinestones Mom gave me when I was in my early 20's, thinking to
myself "what am I going to do with this?" Well, now I know; I should have
kept it and cherished it and had fun with it. Fashion styles come back
around and so does jewelry.
Gotta find a way to show you folks the kittens he painted.

I have a scanner the problem is the frames. And even though he made the
frames by hand, boy did he hammer those suckers together!

I've done fairly well in either scanning with the cover wide open or with
taking digital photographs of paintings and then cropping and enlarging.
You have to fiddle around with the light a bit to get the colors right.

I'm very much looking forward to the pics of kitty paintings.
Lots of purrs for John's Mom and for John,
Polonca and Soncek
