Rocky needs purrs

Rocky usually comes in about 9. About once a week, when the weather is
nice, he stays out all night. So, I wasn't really worried when Rocky
didn't show up this evening. When the late news came on they forecast
rain overnight and tomorrow, so I looked out and sure enough the
ground was wet. I went out and looked around a little, and called. I
didn't see him, so just figured he had found a dry spot to spent the
night and would be hear in the morning.

About a half hour later I looked out the patio door and saw him
dragging himself home. I don't know how he hurt himself, there isn't a
mark on him, but his back feet are cold to the touch and he has no
control over them. I tried pinching him and he doesn't seem to feel
anything from about 2 inches in front of his tail. I'm afraid he must
have a serious back injury.

The good thing is that he doesn't to have any pain. I laid down on the
floor and poked and prodded him, and then scritched him for awhile. He
actually purred a little before he fell asleep. So, I'll be sitting up
with him tonight, waiting for TED to open up in the morning. I'll post
an update when I get some news from TED, but until then about all I
can do is sit with him - and of course ask for some purrs.

This is one of those times when I truely wish we had a 24 hour TED.
The good thing is that this is Monday. TED care is almost impossible
to get from noon Saturday to Monday morning.

Steve, there is a 24-hour vet in the city if Rocky needs to go tonight. It is
on the N. side of 74th St. next to Western..They are real nice up there and if
you want to call and just talk to them, they're very friendly and try to help
you with information. Their number is 405-631-7828.
If he's not in pain I know you will probably wait till tomorrow though. We
will *all* be purring for him and waiting for some news. I am so sorry he got
hurt. They told me once that the way to tell if a cat has been hit by a car is
if his claws look shredded.

Thanks for the purrs, everyone.

Thanks for the information. I knew they had one up there, but didn't
have the number or address. Sure would be nice if we had something
closer, though <sign>

He still doesn't appear to have any pain, so I'll wait until Dr Haney
opens at 7:00. He woke up a couple hours ago and starting dragging
himself into the kitchen. It's really heartbreaking to see him
dragging himself along with his back legs straight out behind him. I
thought he might want some food or water out of the regular bowls
instead of the ones I had next to him, but he was actually on the way
to the litterbox. I had to help him into the box. I gave him some
privacy for a couple minutes (peeking over the counter), but he didn't
do anything. Then I had to help him out of the box. He dragged himself
three-quarters of the way out, then I had to help him the rest of the
way. Of course that was heartbreaking, too. He just laid down on the
towel I have in front of the box and went back to sleep. I'm just
letting him sleep now, peeking around the corner every so often, but
will take a closer look at his claws next time he wakes.

I'm really afraid he must have a back injury. I suppose it could be
his pelvis, but as I said in the first post it seems his feeling stops
a couple inches in front of his tail. His back feet are still cold to
the touch, so there must be circulation problems as well as nerve
damage.

Just three more hours and I'll be able to get him in to see TED.

And More Purrs for Rocky!  Pan once came home crying and in pain  late one
night years ago, but I still remember that, and I can definitely relate to
the anxiety.

I hope Rocky will be okay.

sure you're right about the back injury, buy don't assume anything is
permanent till you get the word from TED in the morning.

My thoughts are with you.

It sounds like what happened to our Maggie when a pair of dogs goe her.  And
play make a wish.  Keep him as still as you can.  The vet will give him
something to keep him still and something to bring down the swelling.  I
hope you get a good result.

you to be strong and be comforted; and for the vet, that his mind be clear
and his hands skillful as he does his work. Please keep us posted.

Purrs and prayers are winging their way to Ok. I hope TED can help
Rocky. Since he didn't go potty when he tried, maybe this is caused by
stones of some sort?

Don't know where you (or anyone but Bev) are, but best to Rocky. I
think about this when Bert is not home on time.
