Good Reflexes

I have a rug in front of the wood stove that is close-woven stuff. And
that is the cats' favorite place to lay when the stove is going. Robin
was all stretched out sound asleep; but dreaming, as his toes and legs
were twitching.

Djoser comes up to him and, in the way of felines, starts to nuzzle
Robin preparatory to lying down against him. At the same moment, Sheba
comes walking up and her claws contact the carpet and make a scratchy
sound.

Robin must have reached a critical point in his dream when the
scratchy sound and Djoser's nuzzling happened at the same time. Robin
was still in the midst of the dream as his survival instinct triggered
his reflexes.

He twisted and grabbed Djoser and pummeled him before breaking away
shaking his head and looking wild-eyed! Djoser was shocked and
squealed. Sheba was frozen in mid-step.

But in the cat world, face must be saved at all cost! Each one
immediately sat down and started nonchalntly washing themselves! That
fighting episode really didn't happen; it was just a dream. ;-)

You know, there must be a lot of funny happenings considering all the
funny things that are caught on tape. But at least we here report
funny things so others can enjoy.

Like someone else said, I wish I had a movie camera on my glasses. At
least i was lucky enough to actually catch the few seconds of action
with my eyes.

Yep, it was over that fast. And I just happened to be looking at the
right time to catch it.

They nuzzle before lying down with each other?  I didn't know that.  I
do like how kitties need often need to sniff things very carefully.

With cats being predatory hunters, nuzzling is like saying,"pardon me,
I am not attacking or pushy. I would just like to share the warm space
with you." Or like dear Amber used to do; he would lick Sheba's
forehead and then start wrestling with her. In his case he was saying,
"I am not attacking, I want to play." So it is a friendly, brotherly
gesture like shaking hands.
