Purrs for a kitten rehoming

Some good catfolks on another group have a kitten they're caring for,
but the established resident cats are seriously put out by the
arrangement. In order to restore peace to the feline household, they're
hoping to place said kitten in a new (and hopefully final OneTrueHome).

Nancy and I were thinking that we have room for another kitty. The
problem is that the kitten in question is in the midwest, and I pretty
much never get routed outside of the western US. I'm trying to arrange a
run to the midwest to do a kitten fetch, but could use some serious
purrs that the normally uncooperative dispatchers and laod planners will
decide to cooperate or a change.

If all goes well, I will of course post many photos!

Oh, bribing up with photos are you?  Well, it worked - many deep, rumbling
purrs coming that the dispatchers will send you where you need to be to
rescue the kitty.

Anybody who'll drive a semi (which might as well burn dollar bills for
fuel) to pick up a kitten will always be OK in my book.  Good for you,
Dan.  I hope there's a happy ending to all this.

Purring for a good outcome.

Thanks! I think burning dollar bills might be cheaper. Sure glad I'm
paying for the fuel myself!

We'll see pretty quickly. If I can't get dispatch to send me out that
way, I just might have to transfer out of the California regional fleet
into the 48-state fleet. One way or another I *am* going to pick up that
kitty!

Oh, I hope that won't be necessary. Then you'll have to be gone away
from home for much longer on hauls, won't you? Or can you transfer
back once the kitty-retrieval has been accomplished?

Purrs for a successful outcome. And congratulations on your new family
member!

Aw, Dan, you have such a good heart. I did a search for pet transport groups
and came up with this link which looks like a good resource that might be
another way to get the kitty.

http://www.furryfolks.com/rescue_transport_resources.htm

If a donation towards gas or pet transport may be needed, let me know and
I'll contribute.

I lurk in that group, Dan, and have been following developments with
interest. :o) We'll be purring for things to sort themselves out. Are

Well, if we change the order around from strictly age-based, we can use
the French spelling :)

Sorry for the piggyback, I missed the original message.

I was watching one of those "Adoption Stories" (whatever it's called)
on Animal Planet. In this episode, people relayed 2 d*gs a couple
thousand miles from where they were at (Alaska, IIRC) to where their
new home was in Indiana (the new owners met the relay in a restaurant
parking lot about 200 miles from their home).

Is there a group that does something like that for kitties? Could
something like that be set up on the fly?

I've made it so far as far as El Paso, TX. I'm currently empty and
awaiting a load.

That means this is an extremely critical time. I am hoping sincerely
that they'll send me north, instead of returning me west. So please keep
those purrs a-coming! A trip to the north should enable me to pick up
the new kitty.

Purrs coming that you'll happen across an understanding dispatcher.
Doesn't seem that big a deal to someone who doesn't really understand
the trucking business. I suppose it might take some rule-bending to
route you outside your normal territory, but hope the dispatcher turns
out to be an animal lover willing to bend the rules.

No progress, but no lasting setbacks either. I'm currently sitting in
Buckeye, AZ with a trailer loaded for El Paso. Yep, back to El Paso,
where I posted from last time.

Since I'll be delivering in El Paso on Friday, I'm hoping I can find a
northbound load tomorrow and that the weekend staff (who have never
impressed me as particularly observant) won't attempt to repower it off
me until after I've arrived. Still need purrs, though - it's still at a
very critical phase, as I have to rely on others to do things they don't
normally do to get to where Harri kitten is currently living.

Looks like I have a slim chance of making it to Harri's area soon! I'm
sitting in Dallas, waiting for the receiver to get my trailer empty.
I've got a preplan on me (a trip they plan to dispatch me on) from Fort
Worth to Kansas City. If I can get to Kansas City, I can probably make
my way to close to where Harri cat is now.

I haven't been dispatched on the Kansas City trip yet, to it's not a
sure thing yet. I have to hope that these guys in Dallas get me unloaded
promptly, as the scheduled pickup in Fort Worth is just 45 minutes from now.

A few additional purrs on this matter would be appreciated! Being able
to get my truck up to Harri kitten's area would sure make it easier to
pick up the littld kitten and get him settled in quickly.

Things are looking VERY good! I'm in Grandview, MO and as soon as this
trailer is empty I'm headed to Oak Grove, MO. Harri's folks have decided
to take a trip to Kansas City and will be passing right by there. So I
should have little Harri kitten in the truck with me some time today or

Wow, that's just great, I'm so glad that things have worked out so you can
get her.  Purr power works again.  Do you know what colour she is?  Not that
it matters, but I just like to imagine what other people's kitties look
like.
Prayers that she will soon be on her way back to your house, her forever

Thanks, everyone, for the purrs. Sweet little Harri is now in the truck
with me, and we've got a couple days of down time here in Missouri
before we start heading back towards California. She is just the cutest
little thing!

I've got the first few photos at

That's what the vet said. Personally, I don't even try to tell a kitties
gender until a few months older than Harri is. Too easy to make an error.

Well, if "she" turns out to be a "he" at least the name can stay the same
with just a "y" instead of an "i"!

What I thought, too.  But if she is, she is.  Apparently, there are
some red and orange females-- they are less rare than male calicos
which are a real anomaly (I don't even know if they are genetically
possible).  But my aunt had a very bright red tabby girl named
Biscuit.
Here are a number of orange girls (some with white, some completely
orange)-- and quite magnificent they are, too:

On my computer, I was only able to see the upper half of the
picture - just Dan's head. No kitty at all! Is that really how
the picture came out, or is my computer refusing to download
the entire thing, for some reason?

I had one of those as well. Pretty sure, not 100% certain, but I think
harri-25 is the same pic, but shows the whole shot.

beautful pix, BTW. Looks like a very happy paw there, and a kitten who

Hooray! I'm glad you were finally able to work that out! She's adorable.
How old is she, about 5 months? She's really pretty. And she has on the
same harness that Smudge wears, even the same color.

Hope Harri enjoys travelling. :)

She looks so sweet! I bet you enjoy having her company in the truck cab
too.
I once fostered an all-ginger female cat, her name was Inge and she was
a sweetheart. She had copper eyes like Harri does (I think?) They are
quite rare, the next most rare after male tortoiseshell cats.
