I had the job interview yesterday for a job I'd really like...public service
in the welfare-ish dept. and it's right up my alley...working with
disadvantaged/immigrants/unemployed to help them gain self sufficiency...all
training supplied!! It's so hard to go back to work after being full time
mummy, and I have no confidence left. Any purrs would be great. I need to
feel like I am a person again, a lot of the depression type problems I've
had over the last few years migth resolve if i feel as though I'm doing
something useful in a positive environment. Only problem is I would have
less time for my ng's....I'll manage something :) Thanks everyone

Excuse the typos. I have a lapful of purry Siamese. In the process of my
writing this, they have
1.Clawed their way up my leg
2.Climbed my head, removing several clumps of hair on the way
3Talked incessantly about the shocking food on offer, and what I'm going to
do about it
4 Changed Caps Lock a few times
5.Typed several lines of gibberish
6. Demanded continuous cuddles, which means I am typing left handed
7. Put the monitor to sleep
8. Had a fight over who gets which part of The Lap
9. Chased Greeblings in my shirt/hair/monitor

Purrs are on the way. You have lots of experience for this type of job.
The job involves helping people, and that's what a full time mummy does. I
hope you get it, and I'm sure you'll do it well.

Hi,
Being a full-time mummy is about as important "job" as you can have. I've
worked at a lot of paying positions, but I consider raising my daughters my
career.
However, I can understand your loss of self-confidence. Raising your own
children is not valued as it should be. If you pay someone else to raise
your children, they have a career. If you raise your own, you feel you are
pretty much either invisible or a household appliance.
But, it's not a simple job. It takes hard work and a lot of skills to raise
your children and run a household. All of these skills would be useful in
the job you describe.
The only difference is that you did not receive a paycheck or paid holidays.
You have what it takes to do the job you want to get.
Remember this when you go on the interview. With your experience, you will
be a valuable asset to the organization.
Best wishes,
Annie

Job purrs on the way. And you *have* been doing something useful --
being a full-time Mom! Requires all kinds of management skills to do it
successfully!

First of all, if you have been a full time mummy, you have most likely
learned multi-tasking skills the average business person can only dream of.
And helping some one to gain self sufficiency sounds an awful lot like
parenting to me.
But I understand completely. If I'm home all the time I seem to go through
some sort of personality disintegration. Work or school helped a lot.
Now I depend on things like the newgroups a bit too much. Nothing like
being deaf to interfere with not really great to start with communication
and social skills.

Thanks for the purrs everyone, i did the interview as best I could; I was up
against one other girl, but she has more experience/training than me.
They're supposed to ring next week, so now I have to wait. I've been flat
out this week, Christmas shopping, sent Chrystal off to the vet for desexing
and fixing a small bellybutton hernia, washing machine broke, so had to
organize arental til the parts come, interviewing potential new kitten
mummys and daddys, trying to get my lactating girl to eat enough,
supplementing the kittens as I'm worried they're not getting enough, argh!!
Anyway I'm trying to get some pics and videos up online, and I'll post them
here when they're done. Thanks for the purrs everyone, I'll let you know
what happens!

Belated purrs..you might want to consider Paula at work. She was a full
time mum who decided to get a part time job, didn't think she had much
to offer, did a couple of computer courses and finally got a little
part time job
She's now technically one of my bosses! (I have about 3 apart from the
4 consultants who rule my working day)
Good luck fingers and paws crossed

Thanks for that tip Lesley, actually I have been thinking of doing some
courses if I don't get this job, so thanks for the encouragement :) And may
all your bosses be nice to you :)
