sriddles@aol.com - 10 Dec 2006 23:43 GMT I never post anything about Bosley, the grandcat, so thought I would, just this once.
Bosley was my son's cat. He went to work for Hallburton Special Services, and was gone from home weeks at a stretch. Bosley had to have a place to stay, so I took him temporarily.
Bosley turned on his owner, though. He wouldn't even come out from under the bed to greet him when he visited. I'm seeing a pattern here. I still have Yoda, his boyhood cat that ended up here when he joined the Marines. Same thing with Yoda.
Bosley is a giant, lanky, somewhat goofy orange tabby. He's the long-leggedest cat I have ever seen. A TALL cat. Anyway, now he's Grandmother's Boy. He follows me around like a dog. If I turn around, I trip on him. If I lie down, he can't lie down BESIDE me. He has to lay ON me, and gaze adoringly at me. His best trick is when I say, "Bozzy, LOVE grandmother! Love, love looooove!" And he rubs his face all over my feet. Every time.
DH says it's great when your cat loves you. Except he says Bosley doesn't love me, he's IN LOVE with me. LOL. But it's nice to have a little one-cat fan club.

Rhonda - 11 Dec 2006 02:28 GMT Sherry, you have the gift. Make sure the son pays room and board for these guys!
By the way, I read two sentences below and thought -- Wow! What a smart and talented cat. He earns his own keep. :)

Sherry, with a fan like that, you know you are special. When our younger daughter left for college, we had her cat Josh. He was huge (22 lbs in his prime) and probably was a gray striped cousin to Bosley. Josh, however did not hide under the bed for anyone. He had kind of self-assurance I've never seen in another cat. He was always the center of any party and loved sitting on laps, even though he often overflowed because of his size.
He is one of those cats who came back to visit after he died. He visited us and our daughter.

Awwww... he sounds like a real love. Your son is so lucky to know that his kitties have such a good home. I'd love to see a pic of Bosley!

This one is from when our air conditioner broke last summer. Bosley spent that whole week with his head under a piece of furniture. I think he thought it made him cooler or something. DH says he looks like he wants to be an auto mechanic. http://members.aol.com/jjrich0523/bosleyfloor.jpg
This one is him and Yoda. He wasn't full grown in this one, he is a lot bigger now.

I didn't take this picture. I have no idea what the prop is for. (???)

Sherry =========================================== In New England we call some calicos moneycats. Maybe Bos thinks he's a moneycat (yes I know he's orange). Suz&Spicey
sriddles@aol.com - 17 Dec 2006 19:26 GMT > In New England we call some calicos moneycats. Maybe Bos thinks he's a > moneycat (yes I know he's orange). > Suz&Spicey Wow, Suz, I didn't know that. I wonder where that originated, that's very interesting.
Boz wasn't exactly a trust-fund cat. My son was living on his own for the 1st time. There was someone with a box of kittens outside Wal Mart giving them away. (YES, I hate that). There was some Siamese ones that he wanted, but when he came back out of the store all that was left was Bozzy. I could have just shot him at the time. Like we don't have enough homeless cats here already, he has to import one from Oklahoma City. Then he gets this away-from-home job, and Bozzy has nowhere to go. I think I sufficiently raked him over the coals enough that he won't ever pick up a cat out of a box again. He was the perfect example of the young person who gets a kitten on impulse, and has no business owning one at that point in their lives. Makes me wonder what hapepned to the rest of the litter.

He was young! Probably most people who are on their own for the first time shouldn't get pets, unless they have a good backup. (I guess he had you. :-/ ) It's good you gave him a hard time so he wouldn't repeat the mistake, but I suppose he had to go through it even once, just to learn the lesson.
I think the phrase "money cat" - which I have heard, also, but then I'm also from Massachusetts, although I didn't know it was a regional thing - has more to do with the money the cat will *bring* to the owner, not the other way around. Maybe calicos were considered valuable because of their pretty colors?

I waited till I had a steady job and my own home before adopting Rusty. But I was layoff after 20 years on the job. I wasn't going to give up Rusty. Plus with his age and medical history, it would be hard to find him another home. So I just keep paying his vet bills which are coming more frequently now that he is getting older. I shudder to think what will happen when I can't afford to pay his vet bills and precription food.

I was only supposed to keep him while son was working in the field. AFter 6 months, he had a job where he came home every night. But Bosley decided he didn't like his daddy anymore. He ran under the bed and hissed every time he came over.
