Starting into my 2nd week of feeling to sick to eat, I actually got some
hunger pangs and opened a can of lentil soup and warmed it up. After a few
bites I couldn't keep eating. I put the bowl down for a minute and went to
another room. When I got back, Abelard was eating the soup. When Abelard got
enough, Tommy started on it. Then Lily had some. And so on, until the soup
was gone. I hate to waste food, so this was A Good Thing. But since when do
cats love lentil soup?

Ah, well then I don't know. Persia doesn't like tuna, so go figure :) She
might like lentils, I don't know. I love lentil soup. But I add bacon to
mine.

When they are hungry?

It seems you are saying that because I did not feel like eating, I did not
feed the cats. If so, you are mistaken. They were not deprived at all.

hahaha! M., you just cannot win lately, can you?
My Boo, by the way, is hungry ALLLL the time. She eats all her dinner and
then
goes on guerilla stealth missions to get Gracie's food. :)

My TuTu has an appetite that never quits. Just because they had a
regular meal doesn't mean they don't want more. MLB

Perhaps they liked the seasoning, or they may have simply liked the
novelty of eating something unfamiliar.

Maybe you are reading too much into that reply. Personally I like Progresso
vegetarian lentil soup. From way back in the days when I was an
involuntary vegetarian. I'm sure there is onion in the broth so it wouldn't
be a good regular diet for cats, but then I can't imagine that it would be.
Not surprised than one of them tried it and liked it, there is always one
cat that will like anything. (isn't it Vino that likes garbanzo beans) It
does seem like something odd for them to all like.

Abelard loves all kinds of beans - garbanzos, black beans, pintos, limas,
tempeh, etc. Lily loves rice milk. Billy won't eat shrimp. Only Tommy likes
turkey (human quality - they all love canned turkey cat food).
Why were you involuntarily vegetarian? Couldn't afford meat? I've been an
involuntary celibate for a long time because my DH left and I have met no
desirable men since then.

My grandparents were vegetarian and I spent a lot of time with them. Then I
went to a boarding school in high school that was also vegetarian. They
baked their own bread and had their own dairy so the food was good and
plentiful. But I like meat.

My kitties love fresh veggie soup and sit (and in some cases, jump to the
stove side!)eagerly waiting for me to finish making it...Yep, I'm a good
slave... I put down 3 big bowls(after it cools) for them to share. :-) Liz

Caliban loves tinned maize. He comes running every time I open a tin of
the stuff. Of course, I dutifully give him a spoonful in his own bowl.
Miranda likes it, too, and will sometimes eat any kernels that Caliban
has left in the bowl.

Abelard would eat a whole can of maize if I let him. Asparagus too. And
brussels sprouts he will even eat frozen!
