The Mere kitten is 2!

Marina - 30 Nov 2006 04:13 GMT On 30 November 2004, my niece's female Russian Blue, Kira, gave birth to a litter of 5. The kittens were supposed to become show cats to be bred from, but it turned out they could not be registered purebreds. Something about their sire not having enough recorded ancestors. So now the kittens had to find homes as pets.
Well, I don't care who or what begat my cats, and I was battling a serious case of kitten fever, so I thought I'd try to take one of the kittens home. Nikki was still alive, and I knew she hated other cats, so I made a deal with my niece that I could take the kitten back if it looked bad.
Well, things progressed nicely, but just when Nikki and Miranda were starting to play with each other, Nikki passed away. Later, I got Mir a little playmate so she would leave poor old Frank alone and let him sleep in peace sometimes. After a week of hissing at the interloper, Mir and Cal are now best of friends.
It's hard to believe she's 2 years old already, and at the same time, it's hard to imagine life without my quirky little princess. Hoppy Purrday, Mir-Mir!

PS from Claudius: hope you hav wunderful treets today Miranda but don't let Caliban near them, he's eating too much alreddy - in fact I'm thinking of asking HK '05 Secrepurry Lily to teleport over and do a foodies audit of our stocks.

Meowmie gave me turkeybird, but she gave Caliban just as much turkeybird, because she said it wouldn't be fair not to share. Since I'm the big sisfur, I have to share. Lily had better teleport over soon, or there will be no stock to inspect.

Just now she went racing up on of the poles of the Palace, stopped half-way up, glared around her with a maniacal grin on her face and her huge ears swivelling like crazy, then she jumped down and zoomed outside. Two minutes later she is calmly sitting on top of the other cat tree and washing herself. Hehehe.

Betty would only zoom after I'd gone to bed.

> I like zoomies, but I don't know if I've ever seen one. I mostly just > heard them. Betty would only zoom after I'd gone to bed. Yeah, it helps to be a night person. In the bad old unemployed days, I used to be up until all hours, and I regularly witnessed Roxy's nightly zoomies. They would happen around 2 or 3 AM, sometimes 4. I just figured she suddenly got into the mood to play, so when she started zooming around, I would play "stalk the kitty", where I'd pretend to be a cat, and walk toward her veeeeeeerrrrrrryyyyy sllllooooowwwwwlllly, looking like I was about to pounce. That would usually keep her going!
I still see Roxy zooming around if she does it early enough, but I try to be in bed by 1:00AM, so I don't always catch the show. (I know I'm a night person, because that seems like an early bedtime. :))
Licky enjoys Roxy's zoomies, btw. He often looks confused at first, but also intrigued. Eventually, he gets in on the action and starts chasing her, and then vice versa, and they wrestle. She might be 5 years older, but they're well-matched in their energy level.
If Smudge is in the house, she gets up on a high surface and meatloafs with her ears back until the dreadful activity is finished.

Marina - 01 Dec 2006 04:56 GMT > She's adorable as always. Are you sure the shoulder kitten is really > Miranda? The whole litter looks the same to me at that age. :) I'm pretty sure that that's Mir, because there was just one kitten who would climb up people's backs, and when she came to me, she did it like she'd been doing it all her life. Also, when I took that picture, I remember my niece saying, 'this kitten likes to climb up my back. Thank goodness none of the others do it.'

Well, if it had been up to her, I think she would have liked to keep all the kittens, but she lives with her parents and they did not want to have 7 cats.
