Molly had a rough morning.

Semi-resident grandson has been working for a major retail store for a few
weeks as a seasonal employee.  Unloading trucks of Christmas merchandise.
We are thrilled as while he is working, we know where  he is.  He also runs
with a marginally better crowd when he works.   And is too tired to get in
as much trouble.

So Grandpa has been happy to take him to work and pick him up.  At least
there is a schedule.

He had to go in at 4 this morning to help with a truck that was coming in
with things that were going on sale today.  My contribution was to set alarm
clocks and to figure out how to get the coffee ready to turn itself on at
the right time.  So far so good.

I am profoundly deaf at night so I have no idea what goes on around me.  But
apparently Molly was on the counter this morning at 3am having a drink of
water from the glass we keep there for the cats.  The coffee maker turned
on, and never having heard it before and expecting peace and quiet at 3am,
she freaked out.  The glass went flying and landed on the tile floor.

Grandpa and grandson did their best to clean up the glass.  I've been over
the floor as best my old eyes will allow and found a few more shards.  I put
Kayla's tennis balls up because I'm afraid they will pick up glass if they
touch any.

Molly has gone out to try to locate her nerve and her dignity.  Its cold and
windy out, but I suspect she is across the street.  She likes those
neighbors and their house is quieter than ours.

So we could use some purrs for Molly and some purrs that we find every last
shard before anyone is injured.

Poor girl, I know how she loves having the house to herself at night when
everyone else is sleeping.  I'm sure her nerves are a shattered as the
glass.

Poor Molly! She probably thought the Evil Coffeemaker was a booby trap
for kitties who get on counters when everyone is asleep. I should get a
coffee maker. And I probably shouldn't tell this disgusting story, but
I left a skillet with bacon grease in it on the stove last night, and
this morning it was licked clean. And my cats Never get on the counter.
They swear.

They probably cleaned it better than the dishwasher.   MLB

Purrs on the way for her injured dignity.  Have you tried running the vacuum
over the kitchen floor?  If yours has a wand attachment you could use that
around the base of the counters.

I've used the Dustbuster I have with its wand.  Its a really high power one
and does do a good job, even if it does kill my back.

I forgot the most important part from Molly's point of view, and why she
went into such a tizzy.  Our coffee maker grinds the coffee beans first, and
I'm sure the grinder sounded like a wild animal to her.

It has been a long time since I've had to do this.  If I remember
correctly, this works:    Use a piece of surgical cotton which has been
dampened and go over the floor.  It should pick up all those tiny
splinters.    Good luck!      MLB

one of the tricks I was taught to clean up glass without being able to see
it... get toilet paper, wad in large bunch to protect fingers, barley
dampen. blot area that might have glass. repeat several times... and if you
use almost all the paper that is better than stepping on it.... back to
lurking... HTH, Lee
