More specifically, The Window Behind the Dresser.
For years, this has been covered with a knitted blanket - thumbtacks
at the sides to keep it hidden from prying feline eyes. For years,
this has actually worked.
Until recently...
Little Boy has found that if he tugs at the blanket, he can see out
through the venetian blinds. He has figured out that if he squeezes
reeeeeaaaal hard, he can get between the wall and the dresser, to the
window sill. He has figured out that if he squezzes reeeeaaal hard,
and digs his claws into the matress (which is right next to the
dresser), that he can get out from behind the dresser.
Half the night, Little Boy alternates between the window and the bed,
the bed and the window, almost guaranteed to be at exactly the time
when I have *just* dropped off to sleep. Sometimes, when he comes out
of the window, he decides that I would like a nice furry nose warmer,
with authentic cat-like purrs, and we will cuddle for awhile before he
goes back o his window.
Yesterday I asked him, "If you keep hiding in the window, how am I
ever going to get my full quota of kitty kisses?" He has actually
spent a large part of the day yesterday and today, sitting in my lap,
and giving me his own special kitty kisses.
Last night Dulce Mae also discovered the window.
She stood on my pillow and looked at Little Boy, and decided that boy
kitties shouldn't have all the fun. In a split second, she joined him.
I dozed off.
In the middle of the night, she and Little Boy must have conspired. I
feel a velvet paw on my hand, then a couple of quick licks from Dulce
Mae. I open my eyes a little bit, just in time to see the midnight
kisser jerk her head back behind the blanket. I can see her pretty
eyes, watching me.
I smile, and drop back off. Not too many minutes after that, I feel
the paw on my hand again. She just leaves it there... then three quick
kisses on my hand, and she goes back behind the blanket again.
Okay.
I finally reach in, pet Dulce Mae, tell her goodnight and go back to
sleep. No more midnight kisser, no more in 'n' out Little Boy. They
finally let me sleep through the rest of the night. But I swear I
heard the two of them snickering.
Hugs and Purrs,
Mark
