Well, some of them, anyway. The out-of-the USofA cars have been posted, but
the ins-states cards are still being done. I was addressing the envelopes
yesterday (isn't mail-merge a wonderful invention?), in a nice font, and in
color! Then the cartridges in our printer ran 'dry'. Color was out, and
black was extremely low. Ran to the local office-supply store to get
replacements - man they are expensive! Be about $75-80 a set. DH decided
to look at printers. There was one, that they had lots of, same brand, but
different model than ours. Regular price $80 plus tax. In-store "instant
rebate" of $25! Making the cost of the printer $55!
We looked at the cartridges the new model would take - they would run $40
for the pair.
So we ended up with a new printer in stead of printer cartridges.
New printer has about the same print quality as the old - but is faster!
Yay!
After figuring out how the new printer takes envelopes (about 30 minutes and
some old scrap envelopes as test subjects), all are finally addressed, and
am in the process of putting on stamps, return address labels (they match
the stamps! At least for the in-state ones - out of state takes different
stamps), and some decorations - then signing the cards and stuffing.... then
the licking the envelopes closed. Time to get another dog - one of those
drooly kinds to help with this chore LOL!
Should have the in-state cards mailed by the end of next week.
Also - Britta - did you ever give us you NEW Aussie addy? All we have is
your old Thai addy!

I envy you that soooo much. I have a nearly ten year old LaserJet printer.
I had to have it to print tax returns. And it was very good at its job. My
color inkjet all-in-one died about a year ago. And I prayed that the
LaserJet would just hang in there until I got the last two or three old tax
returns printed a couple of weeks ago. No such luck. Plenty of toner left
the cartridge decided to start smearing and there was no stopping it. I
ended up paying $80 for a cartridge just so I could print one last overdue
return. Not for one of my well behaved clients who always got things in on
time, but for my daughter who had lost her information for 2003, twice. So
now I guess I'll just keep using the old dinosaur for another few years
while this toner cartridge lasts. And be thankful I do have a little photo
printer too.

You will probably like the new printer. They are cheaper (as you learned)
and can often do more. The one possible negative is that the cartridges for
the newer printers often hold much less ink/toner -- and therefore will need
to be replaced more often.

Plus, new printers usually come with a cartridge. Did yours?
I've got an 8-year-old inkjet that I haven't bothered to hook up in about 3
years. Not sure if it will work. Was still working last time I used it but
by now the ink has probably dried up.
I heard that Canon printers use the cheapest cartridges, so if I ever
replace my printer I will go for one of those (unless I find a killer deal
on a laserjet).

I've had Canon printers for the last couple I've bought... Nice,
dependable, and yes, the cartridges are usually less costly. My
husband got a HP printer the last time HE bought one, and it tends to
jam on him when he's in a hurry...

Wow. You're doing them the new-fangled-high-tech way. I didn't think
of that. Mine all hand-addressed. I probably would have still done
that anyway since I really despise messing with my printer.
Mine are all done also except for buying and applying the stamps. That
should hold me up for a while. <g> I'm hoping to get to the post
office on Monday and get them moving.

Sorry, no can do! Last year Julie was sweet enough to include me in the
receive only list, but enough's enough. I would feel absolutely too
terribly guilty receiving cards and not sending 2 years in a row for the
simple reason that I'm too busy to participate. And my kind of busy is
probably nothing compared to many of you folks' busy. I am just a wimp,
I admit I'm a bit of a spoiled brat ;-) You know what they say, like
cat, like hoomin!
So I am going to keep my address a secret until next year when I hope to
participate again. But thank you so much for thinking of me, I really
appreciate it. It means as much to me as if I were actually receiving
all the cards.
