Polonca,

You post so much support for all of us, yet I know nothing about you and
Soncek.  I know you live in Slovenia but that's all.
I haven't posted here for very long, would it be possible to know something
about you and your cat?  I might have missed it before I joined the group.

Five years ago I was working in an office on the outskirts of Ljubljana, the
capital of Slovenia. A grey female short-haired cat started visiting the
garden of the house where the office was located. Some other people working
for a different company, but in the same house, and I fed her and much later
we found out that she belonged to some people in the nearby block of flats
who probably dumped her when she became pregnant :( We all took care of her
and the kittens she later had. I decided to adopt one of the kittens, a
female one. I wanted to wait until the kittens are 3 months old, before
taking her away from her mommie. I was very torn about that decision because
kids from a nearby elementary school were really mean to the kittens. When I
worked I could look out the window from time to time and yell at the kids to
leave the kittens alone, but I was afraid what went on in the rest of the
days. Finally kittens were 3 months old and one day I brought a cage to take
the girl kitten I picked home with me. But when I finished working that day
the kitten I chose was nowhere to be found. I was contemplating what to do
when Soncek (I named him later - that means "sunshine" in Slovene) came
along. I picked him up and he promptly fell asleep in my lap. I realized
that was what was meant to be, so I took Soncek home with me. When I got him
home, he suddenly didn't want to cuddle anymore, he would not let me pick
him up and it took years (he was 5 in June) so that he tolerates a bit more
my (what must seem to him) endless show of affection. But temperatures are
slowly dropping and last winter he decided that lying on my stomach while I
read in bed is a good thing. I think so too.
Soncek's mommie was later spayed and her kittens all found their
onetruehomes.
I do hope the story I wrote wasn't too long.
Best wishes,

Definitely NOT too long. Glad you, and the other workers were there to
look after the momma and her kittens.

That was a lovely story! I love hearing about how cats find their true
homes. Thanks for sharing, I hope you'll write more in the future! :)

Best regards.

I enjoyed reading this, Polonca; I don't believe I'd ever read the
story of how Soncek enslaved you before.  It wasn't too long at all -
in fact, I wish you'd tell us more about yourself and Soncek, and more
often.   :-)

I love a story with a happy ending!

Not at all!  I'd enjoy any story, no matter how long, that ended with
kittens getting onetruehomes.  Thank you!

I loved it, thank you. I know so little about your part of Europe. At times I
want to ask about life there, but don't was to be nosy (bother your privacy).

Not too long at all, Polonca. I sort of knew the story already, but nice
to read it again. Everyone here is right, we don't hear enough about you
and Soncek. :o)

A lovely story, I hadn't read it before and of course it wasn't too
long.

A house is not a home, without a cat.

You and Soncek have to be a couple of the sweetest beings in the world.
I hope that you write more soon.  I would love to read about you,
Soncek, Slovenia, and your life.  I'm sure that others would as well.

Thanks for the compliment, but both Soncek and I have our weaknesses.
Luckily for me Soncek sleeps through the night, since I doubt I'd be very
happy if he woke me up at about 3 o'clock in the morning. Actually he did
that a couple of times and I was not amused!
He is pleased to see me come home, he smell-checks my hands to see who I
have been patting. He doesn't mind if I pat other kitties or even d*gs, he
is simply interested. And he knows he is the *boss*, so there's no need for
him to be jealous. But he is jealous and that happens only when I'm on the
phone. He hates it so much that he bites my hands really hard and last time
I did not let him do that, so he went and chewed my shoes :(
I can't get him to eat *any* kind of canned food, even though I haven't
given up yet and from time to time I come home with a new sort of can that
they made available at the store. But he would much rather go hungry than
eat anything but dry food. It also has to be fish-flavoured if at all
possible. And he's been eating Hills and IAMS, but now he doesn't like those
anymore, so I buy him Purina and Royal Canin. I haven't even realized what a
picky eater he is until I wrote that! Well, anyway, I love him to bits.
Best wishes,

Polonca I have that same problem with Wilson, I despair of
finding something that he will really go for, he seems to eat under
sufference, and when I do think I've found something at last, he
never wants it again, and yet he's healthy enough.

Nice story, thanks for telling it! It must have been hard to wait for
the kittens to be old enough to be separated from their mother when they
were being harassed by neighborhood kids. I'm so glad they survived that.
I wonder where the little girl you had originally picked out ended up.

It really was hard waiting for the kittens to grow up and adopt their
humans. Luckily they all stayed healthy and well in spite of everything.
I do wonder sometimes about the girl kitty. I imagine her ruling her
household with an iron paw, just like Soncek does ;)
