With me now with my new camera :-)
I am going to be able to take more pictures like I want to specially with
more time on my hands.  Is there a place that I can load my pictures up
online and have them for all to see but I would like keep personal
information hidden due to the ones that lurk here for no good.
Jo Firey - 24 Nov 2006 18:59 GMT
I use webshots and it has never been a problem.

I like webshots, they make it easy to view pictures full size if you want
to.

I'd like to weigh in with my *strong dislike* of webshots! I haven't
used them to post pictures, but I've gone there many times to view other
people's pictures, and each page is painstakingly slow to load because
there's so much junk on there that I do not care about seeing. I usually
have to click the link, and then go do something else while I wait for
the photo to load. And I have DSL, btw, so my connection speed isn't
the problem!

Yahoo has an easy-to-view picture gallery. But I don't know what it's
like to deal with them if you are the one posting the pictures, so I
can't recommend or oppose them, but as a person who loves to look at
everyone's cat pictures, I like them a lot.

Yahoo photos is real easy to upload to.

I hate Yahoo pictures, you can never see them full size. If I see a link to
Yahoo I don't bother with it.

Same here -- tiny pictures, and nonmembers cannot gain access.  Almost *any*
of the other sites are preferable, although I do dislike all the advertising
on some sites.

Exactly - they're too darned small to see!

I'm happy with Photobucket.

Me too.  The best I've seen from other people is Photobucket, because
it lets you post a direct link to the photo itself, no junk at all.
The best solution is one like what I use, paid-for server space of your
own hosted by a fast ISP.

Yahoo is horrible if you aren't using Microsoft software.  I never
bother looking at Yahoo sites any more, chances are any attempt to
navigate anywhere will freeze up in a Javascript loop.

Hmm. I use Firefox, and I never have trouble with the Javascript on
Yahoo.

Not that I'm any great lover of Yahoo, mind you, but I don't have any
trouble viewing photos on it.

Others have come up with other suggestions besides either Yahoo or
WEbshots.

I'm the opposite. I like webshots and HATE yahoo - I had a yahoo album
for awhile but it was a pain in the rear to use and I deleted it. I
love the webshots photo manager that lets you upload as many photos at
once as you feel like, without even going to the website... I select
about 20 shots and go away and leave the computer alone for 15 minutes
so it can do it's thing.

There are a number of websites where you can make on-line albums to display
your photos.  I use picturetrail, which I find relatively easy to use.  The
only information displayed is what I decide to write about the photos.

I like www.picturetrail.com.  They have a free introductory period, then
there is a small annual charge ($19.95, if I remember correctly).  You can
categorize by albums, as you can see by the names under my sig.

They may have changed their policy, but when I started with picturetrail,
and for a few years afterward at least, you could store up to a certain
number of photos free for an unlimited time.  When I neared that limit, I
was offered the opportunity to pay $19.95 a year to store a lot more there.
I could have deleted some of the photos I had there to make room for others,
and wouldn't have had to pay, but I decided to pay the extra, which so far
has given me unlimited storage.

Matthew, in addition to the information you requested (and received several
responses), you also might like to post individual pictures to one of the
binaries newsgroups -- that is, alt.binaries.pictures.animals.  Several of
us from rpca and h+b post occasional pics of our furbabies there.

dropshots.com is a good one

Picasa web albums is a good place to post your pictures.

I'm sure you'll enjoy it, Matthew.  One of the great advantages of digital
cameras is that you can take as many shots as you like.  You don't have to
get them printed to find out which ones are bad.  You can delete them either
before or after you download them to your hard drive, and you can crop or
otherwise manipulate the ones you decide to print if you want to.

One more alternative: Flickr at http://flickr.com/. I recently read
somewhere someone saying it's the best photo-sharing site there is, but
don't remember where I read that (not on the flickr site ;o) ). My niece
posts there. The only problem is, it seems you can only upload a limited
number of pics; at least I can't find some of the older pics of my
niece's. I've been thinking of using flickr, but I already have Yahoo
and Webshots accounts (I prefer Webshots, though I don't like their new
layout), so I don't know if I want to add yet another photo account to
those. Oh, and I lied when I signed up for Yahoo. :o) Gave false name
and address etc. :oD

I just opened up a web album at Picasa.  It's actually very nice so far.
I thought at first that it required the software download, but it
doesn't.  It also doesn't use a bunch of scripting or add a bunch of ads
to slow it down to a crawl like Webshots.  Full size pics are available
to view.  There is a user setting to determine if viewers are given an
option to download the pic. Other picasa users can leave comments, but
pictures are available to all if desired.  You can have private
folders/photos only available to those you send the link.  RSS feed is
available.

The only con I really saw was that it was limited to 250mb for the free
version.  To add to that it will cost $25 yearly for 6.25gb, and there
are larger allowances for more money.

Overall, it's a very nice simple interface without all the crap that
goes with other free services.

I put up some kitty photos including the newly crocheted kitty pi at

That's a really nice site, I agree. Easy to use, clean, not much junk
on it. And I like that once you look at the first picture in a series,
the others in the same series display immediately - no waiting. I don't
know if they download them all at once, or if they have a very fast
algorithm for downloading, but it works really well. If I needed a place
to store pictures on the web, I'd choose this site (but my ISP provides
huge amounts of web storage).

Oh, and beautiful kitties, too, by the way! :)  Ty is very regal. And
Lucy is a beauty.

You could make a webshots gallery... it's free for the first 3 albums
and 300 photos so you could just make a 'cats' album to load them
into.
