I'm looking at an ad on the web (and why am I even on this site????).
Here's a quick translation:

"Race and gender: farmcat, male

Information: Red tabby, short hair, medicated for intestinal parasites,
vaccinated, checked by a vet, 3-month old kitten. Open, brave, sociable
and loves company. Used to dogs, children and a busy home. The perfect
kitten for you who want a purring lap cat. 100 Euros. Vaccine/health
card available. HELSINKI."

He's right here in Helsinki. Oh. My. What made me look at this site with
cat ads? I can't take another cat. Nikki would probably eat him.  At
least she would hiss and spit at him. I couldn't do that to a poor
little baby, could I? But he's a ginger tabby... a tabby! Exactly what
is missing from my life. No no. This flat's too small. It's too
difficult to transport three cats to the island. It's hard enough with
two. But he's a ginger tabby...

Somebody, please hit me.

Actually, it's all your fault, Christine, cause you posted the link on
the Finnish cat ng. ;o) What do you think Laku would say about a buddy?

All the pro's and con's are being considered as we speak... err... type.
MIL is allergic to cats, but so far has not had any bad reactions to
Laku. She does, however, react to Janne's older brother's cat. Could be
because Laku's indoor only and Nella's indoor-outdoor. But dunno how
she'd react to two cats for a weekend. We visit the PIL's (LOL!) fairly
often and wouldn't want to have to leave any kitties behind.

Nikki says, 'don't you dare send that trouble-maker here! I have Frank
firmly wrapped around my paw and I don't want to get training *another*
stupid boycat.'

Sorry, Marina, can't help you -- I've a particular soft spot for ginger
tabbies myself....

Well, I thought three cats would be too many in a one bedroom, but that
doesn't seem to be the case. I think it's a great idea......

For almost a year I had four cats in my very small crowded house. And
I have had three cats and a boy and his dog for many, many years. As
for traveling, I saw at PetSmart a cat carrier with wheels and a
handle a lot like airplane luggage.

CATherine, fond of ginger cats, too.

I like them too, and I really miss having a tabby around (most of our
cats when I grew up were tabbies). But I slept on it and had a reality
check. I know Nikki would hate a newcomer, and I'm not so sure that
Frank would be as friendly to a kitten now as he was when I brought
Nikki home. After all, he was barely one year old himself then.

Frank might feel he is being displaced. He is getting on in years, and
he has lost some muscle mass and probably doesn't feel very strong. He
would be alright now, but in a year's time, the kitten would be a
strapping young catman, maybe bigger than Frank, and Frank might feel
threatened. If I took a kitten now, it would be for me, and very unfair
towards both Frank and Nikki. So I won't. :o( I'll just have to dream of
a ginger tabby.

Bono says you can dream about him cause he's *kind of* a ginger tabby ...
at least he is sort of red and striped, only the wrong way ...
(which suits him just purrfect!)  ;P
(for those who don't know him he's an Aby and have got his stripies across
each hair)
and you are of course always welcome to visit your dream (nightmare?) boy!
=)

LO Marina

That was an immensely sensible post, IMO. Wonderful though a new
kitten would be the strong likelihood is that Frank & Nikki would be
highly upset, as established senior cats usually are, and he/she and
the disruption he/she wrought would ruin their twilight years. It's a
common mistake made by catslaves, to get their senior owners a young
companion, which according to virtually all the "experts" works out
badly.

Even Bandit (7) and Pericles (5) don't have quite the same harmonious
relationship with each other as they had prior to hoolikitty
Snowball's arrival.

So my congratulations on letting your head rule your heart, for now.

Best wishes

Marina, Marina, Marina.  <shaking head>   What you need to do is read
more of CatNipped's Sammy posts.  And get on IM so I can provide a
running narration of what I'm taking away from Hubert/shooing Hubert
off of/getting Hubert out of for a few minutes.  I'll bet you're in
the same position as I was, pre-Hubert - you only *think* you remember
what it's really like to have a kitten zooming around the place.  You
forget how exhausting they are.    :-P

Exhausting? Kittens? Noooooo! They can't be, they're so cute! ;o)

I know I need to get on IM, Krista. I miss our chats, but I just don't
seem to have the time these days. Maybe soon. I hope.

Sorry Marina, I won't hit a woman (even if she asks), if that's what it
takes then you'll just have to learn to live with 3 cats and be ?100
poorer.
